We have disgusting black and brown flakes after every load of laundry we do. We think it is a mold issue, and have seen other people with the same issues. It is a top loading washing machine that we purchase new. It is new and functions properly except for this. How can we get rid of it? We've run the self-clean cycle numerous times and it doesn't help!!!
Thank you for reaching out to us! Have you tried the following:
To keep your washer tub clean, use the SELF CLEAN cycle at least once a month or every 20 cycles.
Perform the recommended procedures below when using the SELF CLEAN cycle. On 2011–2013 models, the SELF CLEAN cycle is labeled “Pure Cycle.”
Remove all items from the washer tub and ensure the tub is empty. Laundry left in the tub during the SELF CLEAN cycle may be damaged.
Press Power to turn on the washer.
Turn the Cycle Selector to SELF CLEAN (or select Pure Cycle).
Press and hold Start/Pause (Hold to Start).
After the SELF CLEAN cycle, leave the lid open to dry.
The water temperature for SELF CLEAN is set to Hot and cannot be changed.
When noticeable residue is present in the washer tub, add 1 cup (8 fl.oz or 240ml) of liquid chlorine bleach to the bleach compartment before you start the SELF CLEAN cycle.
Do not use or mix any other detergent or chemicals during the SELF CLEAN cycle. If necessary, run a RINSE+SPIN cycle after the SELF CLEAN cycle has completed to help remove any residual residue.
Please be aware that certain usage and environmental conditions may result in residue build-up or odor in the washer tub.
Check the washer tub before using the SELF CLEAN cycle. Remove any water remaining in the tub by running the SPIN ONLY cycle before starting the SELF CLEAN cycle.
If there is chlorine bleach left in the washer tub for an extended period of time, rust can occur.

I also have the same issue. I have called Samsung and they didn't want to do anything to fix the problem. We always have done the clean cycle and even had a repair person come out and try to get all of it out but it just comes right back. There is nothing that takes it away. The more you do the clean cycle as they suggest the worse it gets. The bleach doesn't help, the washing machine tablets don't help, Samsung doesn't help.
I think we are going to just have to end up getting new washers and dryers.
If the troubleshooting provided does not help I recommend letting a service technician have a look. Send your full model code and serial number via private message or call 1-800-SAMSUNG directly to get started.
Samsung wanted me to get a repair done and the repair place said they would probably have to replace the entire drum which will cost me more than I paid for the washer.
I am also having the same issue and have done everything. I've seen several complaints on many different forums. Self clean cycle does not work. What is Samsung doing to resolve this issue? A blanket statement on how to run the self clean cycle is not sufficient. I want this fixed please!
If the troubleshooting above does not help please send either me or one of the other mods a private message with your full model and serial number and pictures of your symptoms.
I have had this same problem for the last 18 months. Tried the self clean over and over again. Also tried the bleach in the self clean cycle and still have residue on my clothes. Call Samsung and they sent out a repair man. He said he couldn't fix it and that it was a bad design. This machine is junk!!
