I may have found a fix. The repair man took apart the agitator and I cleaned all the brown gunk out that I could get to. Then we took the whole drum out and I scrubbed it clean from all the detergent buildup. It was shiny aNd new again. We put it back in and I had him put a new agitator In. It was different from the factory installed model but it is the approved replacement part for this washer. They must have improved the design. We put in a new screw and cap. So far so good. You can order the replacement parts with Sears Parts Direct or your repair man can do it for you. Parts were about $160 total. He said just use distilled vinegar on a hot cycle every month in addition to the self clean cycle. Hope this helps.
