Washer Won't Start

JUMP TO SOLUTION

I've been fighting an issue for a few weeks now. wf45h6300aw/a2

Our Washer won't start 90% of the time. My wife will load the clothes and then hit the Start button and recieve a beep back. Turning it on and off several times will sometimes get it to kick in and start going. Hitting the power button only changes the display to OFF, but it never turns off.

Being the IT guy/DIY guy that I am, I decided to try and research the issue and fix it. So far here's what I've done.

1. Removed the front panel and looked for moisture buildup. I didn't want to pry up the touch button's circuit board to check under there for moisture. Re-assembled the front panel and still gettign the same results.

2. Tried to use the diagnostics mode to see what it reported. Held the 2 childlock buttons and then hit power. All lights on and it seemed to be in Diag mode. However, turning the Dial does nothing. Hitting the Start/Pause button does nothing. Hitting power again just says OFF and doesn't actually turn off.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm hoping this is under some extended warranty, but it seems like it's a PCB that needs to be repalced and not the drivetrain. It's just over 3 years old.

If your washer won't start, the buttons won't work, will not turn on, or the control knob won't select a different cycle, you probably have Child Lock turned on. If your Child Lock icon is lit or flashing, this confirms it. Turning Child Lock off will usually take care of your problem. If the Child Lock is off and the unit still won't start, continue with the steps below.

Check for moisture in the panel.

Moisture in the panel is normal, especially if the washer is in a humid location. Allow the panel to dry and try again.

Confirm that setting is available.

Some settings and features do not work with every cycle. If the button works on some cycles but not others, this is normal. See the appendix in your user manual for which settings can be used with each cycle on your model.

Make sure the power cord is plugged in.

The outlet needs to be a well-grounded, 120V, three-prong outlet, protected by a 20-amp circuit. To confirm the outlet is working, plug in something else, like a lamp.

Check the power cord is not damaged.

If the power cord is damaged, visit our Support Center to request service.

Verify the laundry room has its own dedicated circuit.

Your washer and dryer will typically share the same circuit, although electric dryers require a 240V outlet that a washer cannot use. Do not have any other devices on the same circuit as the washer and dryer.

Check if the circuit breaker has been tripped.

Tripped circuits often look like they're on (see the lowest circuit in the image). To be sure, switch the circuit off, then back on again.

Make sure the washer is not plugged into a surge protector.

Samsung does not recommend using surge protectors with our washers.

Unplug the washer for 60 seconds, and then try again.

Note: Make sure that you are quickly pressing the button down instead of holding it down

If the above troubleshooting steps didn't help, here are some service options:

- If your unit was recently purchased, you can check with your retailer on their return/exchange process.

- If you have an extended warranty you can reach out to them to have service processed.

- If you're within the one year warranty, you can Private message one of our moderators to have service set up. https://bit.ly/2tWAAvS

- If you're OUT of warranty, you the following link to locate a service center in your area by using the link below

I'm sure you've tried this but just in case you haven't. Have you tried unplugging the unit for 10 minutes and then trying again?

Thanks for the reply Gill. Yes I have tried that. I have it plugged into a Surge strip now and I leave it in the off position between testing.

Instead having every single "SOLUTION" in this  thread across google searches is all of you saying "Send us a message"--how about you post an actual SOLUTION or something every person looking in forums can at least try?!

I cannot believe what a horrendous piece of garbage this WF42H5000 unit is.
3 yrs old

Same frickin problem

Contacted Samsung, they said "out of warranty" "go to a servicer"

like I want to pay several hundred dollars more for this piece of junk, plus the part costs (replacing control panel = $200-$250)

Why on Earth would you urge someone to take the route of spending hundreds of dollars MORE on a product 3 years down the line on a known issue of manufacturer defect?? UNLESS, Samsung has a built in kill-switch to make you do just that

whats the other explanation??

ive had it with Samsung devices

SAMSUNG,

You have seriously lost touch with producing a quality product, and your customer service leaves nothing to be desired.
I purchased a new board, slapped it in, and got nothing but a 66:66 across the display, flashing over and over and over - no buttons work.
LITERALLY, SAMSUNG = LUCYLOU I mean what the heck kind of terrible trash is this Samsung?

And even if it only happened across a select few 1000-10000 devices, why not own up to your mistake, as admitting fault and garauntee it the fix would likely bring you in another million of those 10,000 people?

how?

let's say they value the candor Samsung had (but they don't), and decided from them on, they were going to stick with Samsung TVs, Toasters, Refridgeratots, etc.

Those 10,000 people could likely, easily, spend $2000 a piece on new equipment.
whats 10,000 x $2,000 ???? $20,000,000

But no, you wanna take the bank that MAYBE half of them might buy 1 more appliance in their LIFETIME..

Tell me Samsung, what's 5,000 x $600 ???

3,000,000

Youre missing out Samsung, God knows you drop fake scrap large enough to supersede that.

GUYS. JUST BUY ANOTHER WASHER FROM A REPUTABLE BRAND LIKE WHIRLPOOL, GE, heck even FRIGIDAIRE would be a better product than what Samsung attempts to deliver, and I don't even know if they make Washers but I bet it would actually WORK, and last you 10 years or more.
