Please explain what you mean by "won't turn off"
Does the screen not go to sleep? Does the phone not lock when the screen goes off?
If you are worried about your phone wasting battery and don't want to turn it off completely you can put it on airplane mode.
If you are wondering why the screen doesn't turn off/go dark when it is not in use check your 'screen timeout' setting. (This setting should be set to something like 30 seconds)
This can be found under settings, display, screen timeout.

I'm thinking potentially faulty light sensor on the phones. At this point I think getting the phones looked at might be the best bet.
There was an update released today for the phones, try to install it and see if that makes a difference before getting them looked at.

Misread your original post. The phone you have is unlocked and yes should work on all networks (if the phone was carrier unlocked prior to being taken off T mobile).
It shouldn't be an issue at all. All you should have to do is insert the new service providers sim, phone will reboot, and you should be good to go.

Has there been anything new at all with your phones?
What is your service provider?
Are these unlocked phones or service specific?
What, if anything, had changed in the days leading up to when the issue began?
Any new apps? Any new settings changed?
Have you put your phone into safe mode to see if the issue continues?
I would highly recommend putting your phone into safe mode before trying the next step.
Would you be able to back up your phone and then give one of them a factory reset?
Perhaps if that is successful you'd be able to narrow it down.

I know this may seem minute, but are you using the charging cable and charging brick that came with your phone?
Are you plugging them into a known working wall outlet?
When did this problem start? Any apps installed? Is the charging brick or cable damaged in any way? Is your phone new or used? What kind of phone is it? Is there any damage on your phone?
I would recommend borrowing a known good undamaged charger and cable from a friend and see if it charges normally. If this is not an option, try going to any place that sells electronics and see if they have any phones on display. They are virtually always plugged in ask if you can plug your phone into the charger to test it.
I've done this before in a pinch and found I had a faulty cable at home.

Yes that is true. You have an unlocked phone, but it only has the antennas for a GSM network.
Verizon (xfinity mobile) and Sprint are CDMA networks.
You must buy an unlocked phone that can be on GSM and CDMA.
Unfortunately this phone will not work for CDMA.
P.s. I have a globally unlocked Galaxy S9+ model number G965U1. This phone works on all mobile networks GSM and CDMA. Hope this helps.

Do you have a theme on your phone? If so, disable it and reboot, then check again.
I would also recommend checking for an update on your phone manually, as well as rebooting your phone and cleaning the cache partition.
Be very careful when clearing your cache partition ensure you select the proper option.
To find directions for this simply google "how to clear cache partition on *enter phone name here*"
Have you installed any apps when this started to occur? Do you have a case or screen protector that covers part of your front cam or sensors at all? When did this issue start?

Let's go back my friends. Back to April 2015. Back to the release of the Samsung Galaxy S6. For those who don't remember, or perhaps aren't aware, when Samsung announced the Galaxy S6 it was not received with lots of fanfare.
The Galaxy S5 had been a very shoddily built phone, to say the least, and had a cheap low class feeling. The S6 was Samsung's opportunity for a full redesign and a chance to show why their flagship line deserves the high price. They failed.
They introduced a huge step backwards and a step towards apple. No micro SD slot, no water resistance, no camera improvement, no software improvement, it was essentially a worse phone than the S5 but with a higher pricetag.
The S6 was a massive failure. It had issue after issue. Fans hated it. Critics hated it. Nobody bought it. Samsung was horrified. But they turned to their supporters and did what most companies refuse to do, they listened.
Samsung seemed to have learned their lesson with the release of the highly adored Samsung galaxy S7 and more so the S7 edge. They had fixed and improved on everything that made the S6 awful.
Yet Samsung still saw people run to the iphone. They saw the sheep doing what sheep do, following the heard. Nothing more.
Us diehard Samsung fans have tried for far too long to show Samsung that they are doing the right thing. We bought the garbage S3, lasted through the horrible plastic S5, and even loved them through the god awful S6 redesign. Yet nothing. Like a loving dog running up to a careless owner, we were silenced and cast aside. Left out in the cold. Unloved and alone.
Yet we continued to support them. Coming here to sing their praise when they do well, and try our best to support them and help them recuperate when they do poorly.
But alas the time has come again.
We must unite as a group, turn to our unloving Samsung and shout Enough is enough. We want our headphone jack, We want bigger batteries, We want top tier specs, We want water resistance, We want our micro SD slot, and We want to be able to hold a product and say this is the pinnacle of design. No compromises, No let downs, No lies, This is why we stood by you all those years. We forgave and forgot the Note 7 debacle for this moment.
But no...instead we are taken back to 2015 with the release of the Note 10. Back to high prices and low returns. Back to mediocrity. Back to emulating apple.
This is our return on years of emotional investment.
If anyone believes this isn't a glimpse of things to come they are wrong. If anyone can't understand that it always begins as a joke or a test before becoming common place, well they aren't paying attention. We have lost our headphone jack. We have lost our micro SD slot. We have lost our Samsung.
But we can win them back.
Let your opinion be known. Do not take this sitting down, but rise up. Rise up and say no We won't take this, We finally want all of our voices to be heard. Friends comrades take to the proverbial streets and shout to the heavens "Samsung we will accept your silence no more" We the consumers have the power and we can make a change.
If we stand up and push back we will prevail. If we do nothing and hope they will see the err of their ways, well then we have already lost.

More likely than not this is a combination of a snoopy roommate and lackadaisical attention to privacy.
The average user of social media does not have a private profile, their posts are all public, and their profile can be found by searching google for their name.
People leave their laptops laying around always logged in because it's apparently so challenging to lock your computer with a pin/password/fingerprint that you don't tell a roommate. If this is a serious concern all OP has to do is take their security seriously for 5 seconds and this would be resolved.
Of course the easiest method is to talk to the roommate and say "hey it's kinda weird you know this about me, who told you?" Or some other open form of communication. Just because they are roommates doesn't mean they are friends or even friendly. Add in the fact that the average person today is terrified of the slightest confrontation and viola we have OPs concerns.
Personally, i think having a conversation with my roommate, and leaving my stuff locked properly in my room, is easier and less stressful than scouring a forum for help, but I guess I'm just different.
I do hope OP has a talk with their roommate but also chooses to heed my advice and enhance their security using 2 factor authentication. If nothing else, that is something I believe every single person should use. Whether you are worried about spyware or not.

This is a very tricky question, but without getting into the specific details believe me when I say the average person would not be able to install spyware on your phone.
Now if this person is quite knowledgeable about tech and has a lot of time alone with your phone (e.g you go to the gym for a few hours without your phone) then perhaps they could install spyware on it.
Again, I have worked in IT security for over 10 years and I have seen maybe 1 actual spyware case. In that case the spyware was accidentally installed by the person themselves via a convincing popup. Not a malicious actor with direct physical access to the device.
To mitigate spyware being on your phone I would say do 5 simple things right now.
1. Backup all your important information to samsung/google/your computer whatever your preference is. Your contacts, pictures, apps, wifi passwords, calendar etc. Ensure all of it is backed up to a secure account.
Then go 1 by 1 account by account and make sure you have 2 factor authentication on. For everything. Not just your bank, but everything.
Facebook, Instagram, twitter, emails, credit card, bank account, cell service login, netflix, if it is possible to have 2 factor authentication on it I implore you to use it.
I would say your roommate knows your password to a few things (do you leave your laptop laying around logged into your accounts?) And they have spent some time snooping around. They either snoop when you're not around or know your passwords and snoop all the time without you knowing.
Now with 2 factor authentication they can know your login and password and they still won't be able to login. You will either use an app (like google Authenticator) or your phone number to receive random codes when you login to an account that you will need to put in as well as your password. Only then can you login. Don't have the code? You won't be able to login no matter what.
Once you do login, It will ask you everytime 'do you login from here often?' If yes set a device as 'trusted' and it won't ask for codes when you login from that device only. So if your roommate has your password and tries to login they won't be able to and you will know when and where they tried to login.
2. Factory reset your phone (See why i told you to backup everything before). Let's say your roommate is some bad actor who somehow put spyware on your device, the only real way to get it off is to factory reset your device.
Now remember this WILL WIPE EVERYTHING off of your device. I mean everything. You will not be able to get anything back unless you backed it up first to an external place (samsung cloud, google. Etc.) So please don't forget that step.
I do not recommend doing this unless you have a good 30mins or more to spend setting your phone back up. Installing all the apps again, installing any updates, entering wifi password, setting your ringtone and alarms etc. So do this only when you have a good amount of time, with strong wifi, you do not need your phone, and are not going anywhere.
3. Once those steps are done I recommend installing a strong anti malware/spyware app. The best on the market is called 'malwarebytes' it is in the Google playstore and it is free. (It has a blue logo you will see it)
4. Make sure NEVER to click on a link, email, attachment, picture, or anything at all that you are not 100% sure is safe. Never download, install, or view any comtent that you are not 100% is from a trusted source. 9.999/10 times, in my experience, any malware/virus/spyware got on a device due to the user accidentally installing it.
So please be very very careful, and when in doubt close it out. Better to be safe than sorry.
5. You have a comment 'marked as solution' unless this was your intent i would recommend undoing that. It prevents more people from viewing and commenting on your question if they see it already has an aswer.

Unfortunately there is no way to get it back. Samsung has no idea who is in charge of their forum in terms of an actual person to talk to.
Even after my BBB complaint I was spun in circles and Samsung corposent me to wrong number after wrong number.
It seems if you are critical of them, your post will be flagged and deleted without any notification or message being sent out.
The only thing you can do is repost it, and I sincerely hope you do, and write out your update as well.
I am interested to know how you remediated that issue.

Good Afternoon,
Did you recently download any new apps? Any new installations of anything? Any new updates? When did this begin?
I would start with the following, check for any app/phone updates manually (play story, apps and games, install updates), setting, software updates, download and install.
After all of the updates are completed, I would clear your phones cache partition. (Reboot into safe mode, clear cache mode google this it is very easy). Be very careful to select 'cache partition' do not wipe your phone accidentally.
Once that is done, reboot your phone normally and once it is fully booted up I would recommend putting your phone into 'medium power saving' mode.
This should be a happy medium (pun intended) whereby it isn't too intrusive but gives you a healthy amount of battery life.

Do you have an unlocked Samsung phone? Do you have a carrier version? Which carrier do you use? Have you tried manually updating it? Are you receiving an error? Is there an issue arising?
Please expand on what exactly the issue may be.
Many times an update will not come through unless you are connected to strong wifi. Please try connecting to strong stable wifi and attempt to reboot your phone, wait a few seconds, then check for an update again manually. (All while being connected to wifi).

I am really sorry to hear about these verh frustration issues.
Could you please expand on the issues you are having?
For the battery issue I would recommend a couple things, for example only have wifi/bluetooth/location (especially) on while you need it and are using it. Turning them off all other times will help save battery.
Next I would recommend paying attention to when the issues started. Did you download any new apps? Games? Something through the browser? Anything like that needs to be uninstalled, and only apps from the playstore should be downloaded.
Furthermore most "security" apps on android are a scam. They constantly run in the background and use more battery than do anhthing else. I would recommend deleting all of the security apps and sticking with the one that is built in (under settings, device care) or downloading only an app called "malwarebytes" that is the best anti malware app out there.
I would also recommend clearing your phone cache partition (google clear cache partition galaxy s9, very easy to do) and to put your phone on medium battery savings.
If all of this fails to make a difference please let me know.

What type of phone do you have? What region do you live in? (North America, Europe etc.)
I had a similar issue at one point but I cleared my cache partition, rebooted my phone after, and kept checking for updates. After a few days it came up. (No I can not guarantee or even guess that this will work)
But I would try that. If it doesn't work try backing up your phone completely and give it a factory reset. Be sure you are connected to strong wifi when you do this, sometimes that can get it to trigger the update over wifi.
Please post back if anything changes. I'm sorry i can't be more help. I just aim to be more helpful than Samsung and to be honest they set a pretty low bar lol

A. How would I be getting securoty updates and the OS updates on my unlocked Galaxy S9+ when I have NO service on it. I am still receiving updates? Should I not be receiving any?
B. The service providers have nothing to do with the update when it is an unlocked phone. That is purely run off of Samsung. The unlocked phone gets preliminary modifications when the sim card is install (maybe) and that is all.
Prove me wrong on either of those claims.

Unfortunately they don't plan on fixing it or ever addressing it.
Their one UI is super heavy and kills the battery that's why they put such larger batterys in their new phones.
The batterys will only get bigger. Unfortunately if you dont want to use medium power saving (i use it post update and it gives me over 1 day easily with heavy use) then unfortunately we just have to keep pushing and maybe they will communicate.
For now Samsung doesn't seem to care.

Good Morning, I want to start my pist off by saying I have been where you are. One of my prior posts was deleted for no reason and I went as far as getting in contact with Samsung HQ (DM for info on how) to finally get them to look into why it was deleted.
It didn't get me my post back, but it did get them a little nervous.
Anyway to the matter at hand. Have you installed any themes? Do you have a carrier version or unlocked versions of your phone? Do you have any mods or side loaded apps? Is your phone bootloader unlocked? Have you installed any apps recently? (Prior to or after the update)
Something I can recommend, that does take some time so maybe do it over a weekend or whenever you have a few houra free, is to and fully back up your phone to your computer/google/samsung cloud. (I recommend all of the above just in case)
Reboot into safe mode and wipe your cache partition. That doesn't help?
Boot into safe mode, and see what issues persist, one by one delete/uninstall apps, remove your theme to see if something is causing it.
If that doesn't help? This is why I had you back up your phone, contacts, pictures etc. Give your phone a factory reset.
I know it is time consuming and very upsetting that Samsung doesn't care enough to help. I want to first and foremost make sure you have a working phone then we can talk about how much Samsung has no support whatsoever.

Got a security update for my Galaxy S9+ that is dated over a month old. Why even roll out a security update so late if it isn't going to be current? Might as well just wait a few more days and be current.
Stl waiting for the security update on my Galaxy S8. Starting to think that phone is no longer going to receive any security updates.
What a shame it is. consumers have had the same complaint for over 10 years with regards to Samsung being the slowest for any sort of security or OS update. Every single other manufacturer has improved but Samsung.
Samsung why don't you care? You surely make enough money to be able to afford this. Is it really that hard to support just your flagship phones for 5 years with Security updates and 3 years of OS updates? I don't find that unreasonable.

Please tell me this is a joke. They should not be given a pat on the back and told "good job!" Because they put out a security update 3 months later!
Oh and by the way! The security update is only until June 1st. What kind of joke is this? It's july 9th 2019 and we are rewarding the largest smartphone company in the world for subpar, shoddy, and frankly devious security morals.

Judging from the state of Samsung phones it would appear not very often...
When i look at my Galaxy S3 and my Galaxy S9+ and the only things that's changed has been due to android I get worried.
Take away the bigger screen and creature comforts and what REALLY has Samsung listened to consumers about?
P.s. I am not trying to be rude I sincerely would like to know if Samsung has ever made a design choice/changed something major pre-production due to consumer comments. Specifically with regards to smartphones of course...i mean case and point. The Galaxy S6. Removing the micro SD card slot on a phone with 32gb? What were they thinking.

Unless you provide any actionable evidence I am going to say you are wrong.
I happen to know for a fact that unlocked phones require much less customization than the carrier versions. Unlocked phones carry no specific carrier branding, add ons, features, or anything else. It simply takes longer, as Samsung has admitted to in the past, because they don't care enough to push the updates out.
They work with their carrier partners so it looks good and the media leaves them alone, but when it comes to unlocked apparently nobody cares. Not the media, not the mainstream consumer, and for dang sure not Samsung.
I will digress though.
This is my first Samsung factory unlocked phone. All of my Samsung phones before this have been purchased through the carrier. Each and every one of my carrier phones would get the 'monthly' security updates maybe once every 3-4 months.
This factory unlocked phone was getting monthly security updates every single month usually in the last week of the month.
It has been only since this past April that I haven't gotten a single security update.
I will say that the factory unlocked Motorola phones I have on the same service provider get updates every month, the factory unlocked essential phone on my plan gets an update every month.
It's almost like they have a dedicated team who really care about the WHOLE customer experience. Not just getting you to buy and then pushing you out the door.
Maybe one day Samsung will realize that making beautiful phones is only half the experience, you actually have to support them as well.

If your phone is dying faster than it will charge and will not charge up if it is dead, it is most likely the wall charger/port you are using.
Are you plugging it directly into a wall charger? Is the cable frayed or damaged? Are you using a Samsung OEM quick wall charger?
I would recommend only using the Samsung wall charger that came in the box. If you are in need of a new cable as well, i would recommend the cable that came in the box or purchasing high quality cables from amazon.
They are inexpensive and can be hard in packs with varying sizes (1 foot-10feet+) for only a few bucks.
