When you use the Apple TV app on an Apple TV box or iOS device, the TV app is able to communicate with the other apps you have installed on that device to open that app to play content and to track your viewing for UP Next. I suspect that this is more an Apple restriction than Samsung's choice/ Unfortunately the Samsung TV version does not have the ability to communicate with the other apps on your Samsung TV - so the only way to watch content is to subscribe through Apple. This is too bad as I feel the Up Next/Watch Now streaming aggregation of the Apple TV app is the best their is. I thought my Samsung TV's Universal Guide was supposed to function like this - but so far have not be able to get it to do so (any tips on making that work appreciated). So if you are already subscribed to services or have access to them through your cable provider there is no way to watch via the Apple TV app - it is best to use the dedicated Samsung TV app. Which means the Apple TV app would be just for watching your iTunes content and using airplay - which in and of itself is still better than nothing.
