My understanding is that this is due to Google's implementation of "scoped storage". It's a step to keep apps from accessing storage locations that they don't truly need. The idea is good, but it has broken numerous apps for me that require reading files on my SD card

I am having the exact same issue. Tried out numerous different configurations by calling my wife's phone. WiFi on/off, speaker on/off, etc. I even tried a different phone app ... I know it's not the speaker, because every other time the speaker needed, it works. It all came down to calls over wifi vs data

When using DEX on the 2.5 version there was an option to use the phone's screen as a touchpad for input. I don't seem to have this option anymore with the 3.0 beta. Has this been removed?
