Samsung has not answered. Does anybody know why this feature has not yet been made available on Active 2 in the U.S. The FDA okayed it in September. It's been 5 months now!!! Why can't anybody provide an explanation?

ECG on Active 2 advertised as Active 2 feature Approved in U.S. by FDA months ago. Just made available in 31 additional countries . . . BUT NOT IN THE U.S. Why Samsung? Explain? Provide a rational reason. Is ECG measurement in the U.S. different than in the 31 other countries? How about refunding my purchase? Or send me a new watch that DOES what you said the Active 2 would do.

Great work. Thanks. In another thread, somebody said this approval of the ECG software was for Samsung phones only. Unless I'm missing it, I don't see where approval of the software was limited to any specific phone or manufacutrer. Therefore, Samsung should make the ECG monitoring software available for other android phones -- just like it does for it's other software (or should have disclosed in their advertising that you had to have a Samsung phone to use that feature).

I haven't seen any news. Like many others, I purchased the Active 2 expecting all functionality to be available on non-Samsung phones once they got FDA approval. Now I find out that you have to have a Samsung phone and it's too late for me to return the watch.

There is a thread that has numerous posts on this topic. However, for some reason, I am no longer able to post to that thread. It says "Read Only". Others, however, have posted as late as today, Saturday, October 24. The issue is failure to advertise that the ECG function promoted heavily for the Active 2 would work only with Samsung phones. The latest post to that "other thread" stated that FDA approval limited the funcitonality to Samsung phones and is the second poster to state this. However, I have requested a link or an official press release from the FDA that states that limitation. Nobody has, to date, provided that proof. Samsung, other functionality exists for users of non-Samsung android phones and, therefore, it was reasonable to expect the ECG function would work as well. Will you be updating the generic android app to provide this functionality or not? If so, when?

No recent posts. Anything new? Poster who said FDA only approved ECG for Samsung phones has not yet posted a link to something that supports that statement. Also, nobody has shown where Samsung limited the ECG on the Active 2 to their phones (unless they've changed their advertising recently).

Not only that, I just noticed that my feedback on one posters comments has been deleted. Maybe we all need to move to a non-Samsung forum. Will try one more time. This is different than Apple, XBox vs PS4, etc. I was promised a function and told FDA approval was just around the corner. Waited for FDA approval and now find out, when it's too late to return, that the promoted function doesn't work on my phone. Why would I make the assumption that it would work? Seems like all the other watch apps work with my Pixel 3a. Just this one function -- the one that caused me to decide on the Samsung brand -- doesn't work.

Response to JLA781 You may have missed my response to your first post on page 4 of this thread. If Samsung simply wanted a competitive advantage why didn't they adverise in large, bold font that this exciting new feature will only work on our phones!!! Here's a link to our store so you can select your new phone today!!! Also, I'd like to ask a question. Have you ever made a purchase and then found out that your purchase didn't meet your needs and then return it? If you haven't, you are probably the rare exception. I would return my Active 2 in a heartbeat if I wasn't past the return deadline. The only reason I'm past the return deadline is that Samsung had not gotten FDA approval, but promised it was forthcoming soon. So, stupid me, I waited -- and am now in the possession of a watch whigh, admittedly, I like, but does not have the heavily promoted functionality that caused me to select this watch over other alternatives. I think the delay because of the FDA approval makes this a pretty unique situation in combination with the promotion that in no way indicated that this was a Samsung-phone only feature.

Totally agree with your last comment. I made the same point on page 2 of this thread. In fact, for some reason, I find I am unable to post any more on that merged thread. Wonder why? Don't be surprised if this thread gets merged and buried with lots of unrelated posts again. Samsung - Just state your position and plans (if any) on this issue. We may not like the answer, but it lets those of us impacted move on (and also helps us decide on whether or not to purchase other Samsung products in the future).

Disagree for a number of reasons. 1. Unless you've been in isolation for the past 10 or more years, you know that Apple products are a self-contained hardware / software ecosystem. 2. If you make a certain function a major element in your promotional advertising, I believe you have an obligation (moral, not legal) to let buyers know if there are limits related to that function's use. 3. If Samsung had gotten FDA approval BEFORE marketing the Active 2 and I purchased the Active 2 and it didn't work with my phone, I could have immediately returned it within the return timeframe. However, FDA approval for the ECG function and, therefore, my ability to test functionality, occurred AFTER the return window. 4. I have to assume that Samsung has talented App programmers and can resolve this dilemma if they decided it was important. They really should quickly develop generic android capability, ESPECIALLY GIVEN the FDA delay and return window issue that has trapped many customers who would never have purchased the Active 2 or who would have returned it. See the difference? This is not a legal issue and it is not comparable to Apple. At least in my opinion. By the way, the advice to basically suck it up and buy a new watch means simply tossing several hundered bucks in the trash. Really?

Has anybody found anything in Samsung's Active 2 sales literature that says their highly promoted ECG functionality required a Samsung phone. Please let me know if you find anything since I feel a feature that is promoted as actively as the ECG function should disclose if that function required the purchase of another product in order to work.

A thread related to the ECG not being available on non-Samsung phones was merged (presumably by Samsung) with threads related to problems setting up the ECG function. As a result, the thread expanded from a few pages to 32 pages and now the non-Samsung phone issue is buried. Intentional or not? Also, I can't seem to post to that thread any longer. Anybody else notice this?

No comments from Samsung as of yet. You would think their programming people could develop a generic android app to address this issue pretty quickly if they were charged to do so by Samsung mangement. Doesn't seem like a good ideal for Samsung to alienate customers and impact future sales when I would think the problem could be addressed fairly easily. Samsung, listen. I'm not going to trash my perfectly satisfactory android phone and buy a Samsung phone just to get ECG monitoring!!!

One additional thought. Samsung does have another option. They can private messase me (or you or others) and offer to reimburse us for what we paid for the Active 2. I'll be happy to send it back to them if they'd like to pursue that option. I don't expect every seller to outline every function that will work and will not work under various conditions (like the need to have a Samsung phone). However, if a company PROMOTES a certain function, like Samsung did for the ECG function, then they better include a caveat if it only works in certain situations.

Are you really suprised there is no comment. Maybe they haven't seen this thread or the others like it on the same subject. Yeah, right. Waiting, waiting and waiting for FDA approval and then come to find out we were waiting for nothing. There's only one option for Samsung and it's not a post to this thread giving justification for not disclosing in their promotional materials that this function would be limited to Samsung phones. Their only option at this point (speaking as a retired businessman, this is my opinion) is to put their software folks to work on a priority basis and get a generic android ecg app out the door ASAP.

I have the 3a as well and recently found out that the ECG function only works with Samsung phones. Not disclosed anywhere in sales literature that I could find. Does anybody see anything about the ECG working only with Samsung phones in the Samsung promotion of the Active 2?

True. I have the 3a and same problem. Can't find anything in the sales literature or promotional material for the Active 2 that says it's only fully funcitonal with Samsung phones.

Very disappointed. Purchased the Active 2 in anticipation of getting a number of features, including the ECG feature once FDA approval was obtained. Now I see FDA approval was obtained, but that the ECG feature is only available if you have a Samsung phone. Did I miss something in the small print when I purchased the Active 2. I don't recall seeing anything that would make me believe that the feature required me buy a companion Samsung phone. I like all of the other Active 2 feautres, but would not have purchased the watch knowing the ECG feature wouldn't work. Anybody else feel the same as I do?
