The ABSOLUTELY and INSANELY STUPID way Samsung's "alledged" programmers are using the Altimeter to measure a "floor climb" appears to be the problem. My change in elevation is appx 12 and a half feet (well over the required 10ft). HOWEVER ... rarely, going up or down the stairs will it indicate a change of even 10 ft. Eventually the value will change and settle ... but not until after the "stair climb" and associated "steps" cease. Therefore NO FLOORS COUNTED!!!!! I suspect few people using an elevator or an esclator (where no or few steps are involved) are interested .... it is actually climed steps for floor and the associated calories. If this arbritrary Floor Count elevation was changed to even 6, 7 or maybe even 8ft, this with the presents of some ossociated steps would far more likely indicate a far more accurate floor count. This is NOT difficult to figure out ...but IS probably too much for the simpletons to grasp. This is likely EASILY corrected in software ... but considering sumsung has been unable to grasp this simple thing in this much time ... is is unlikely they apparently don't give a darn about the issue OR their customers. I agree .... this has gotten to be absolute BS.  Samsung's support of products has been terrible.  I waited and waited  for resolve of other issues on my previous watch (Gear S3)  with numerous assurances they would get back to me when they had a solution. NEVER HAPPENED.  When I finally contacted them again still again .... they informed me that it was NOW out of warranty. Each of the MANY contact I had with support referenced this forum however they expressed complete ignorance of ANYTHING that occured here. I see this is a continuation of their past issues and a waste of time.  There are other products BETTER and CHEAPER ... and supported by more competent staff.  The previous poster is right ..... Agreed  ... this is a STUPID solution obviously meant to just put off people to just chase their tails.  This is a psychological technique called "transference" .... transfering the OBVIOUS "samsung problem" back to the new owner. The FACT that it counts some of the time and not others (according to reports) is a prettty good indication that it is capable of working. Mine has counted 2 out of today's "flors".  I have a 2 story house, my office upstairs, and all eles down. I have beeen up the stairs over a dozen times.  It counted NOTHING until i updated the altimeter .... counted 2 floors ...then nothing after.  (and i have gone thru the BS listed above .... worthless) The FACT that so many people are having similar problems  is a clear indication it isnt just a few isolated "hardware failures" but rather incompetent programming and/or design. I preordered and recieved my Gear S3 just prior to the release date. This was my 3rd Gear watch after not having worn a watch for decades. I had great pleasure in it's 2 predecessors sugessting great hope for this model. However this contstant stream of problems with this S3 .... and the apparent TOTAL ineptitude syndrom that seems to permeate Samsungs support has pretty much made a non-watch person out of me once again. Hardware CAN be fixed and software problems usually corrected .... but the support I and many others have reportedly recieved have left at least me with the same issues that were recognized since the watch's official release more than a year and a half ago ... and promised follow-up communications never occured. Samsung Pay "support" is among the worst I have experienced [PERIOD]! Their "updates" have made the watch an agrivation better left on the charger than ones wrist.  When used, I may get an hour of use, I may get 6-8 hrs.   I have, since their last update seen the batter level go from 80% to 15% in less than an hour (not using the watch at all) ..... more often it simply shuts down.  Many days I simply cant get it to turn on.  This has been one of the worst purchases I have ever made ..... "FIX" seems to be only a temporary term at best.  Ive been experiencing these ups and downs since release.  The only thing that I have found I can "count on" is that I WILL experience problems in the very near future. I cant even count on it for "TIME" as it may be DEAD or shut off even a few hours after removing and verifying a full charge.  I gave up on the samsung pay ... STILL waiting on "support" over a year later.  WORST PoS I have ever purchased.   On a positive "note" however ... I have purchased a new 65" LG TV, 4 Asus 27" computer monitors, and have been looking at a lot of "other brands" for my next phone, laptop and tablet replacements.... and I have pretty much given up wearing a watch again.    Having to "fix" something that is constantly "breaking" really isnt a very wise or cost effective choice.  Frankly, Samsung has lost me! While products CAN be usually fixed, confidence and trust across their product line (mainly in the form of support) have been deterioriated so bad I think it unlikely that will  ever be "fixed".   Frankly .... there are so many consistant reports now, and Samsung support has apparently been so neglegent in publically or privately addressing the specific and known problems, I am not so sure that a class action lawsuit may not be in order. ... THe BS with Samsung Support saying thay will get back with you never seems to happen. Ive been waiting for well over a year for them to "get back" or resolve this problem.  They even missed promised/scheduled calls. In fact ... it is "Samsung Support" (rather than the watch) that has pretty much made me a NON-WATCH person once again.  I have never been this disappointed in a product.  Actually ... the product was probably findamentally sound ... it is the absolute incompetence of support and follow through that have left such bad feelings i got to where i resent having made this purchase.  I own 2 companies that do technical support. I had MANY MONTHS of trouble with Samsung Pay ... (even  MORE trouble with the worthless Samsung Pay Tech support .... who after 6+ months has STILL left me hanging!!!)  T-Mobile was aware of the non-existant Tech Support Problems/complaints and REPLACED the watch.  This one worked .... until tonight! At about 10:30 this evening .... both of my cards were deactivated, I was notified in an email .....and when I press the Samsung Pay button it instructs me to contact Tech Support. Obviously you (CONSTALLATION) misinterpreted what was said! WHEN the system works...it works fine for the user and merchants that allow it. Some merchants however.... FRY'S ELECTRONICS for specific example, has posted at EVERY REGISTER ......NO SAMSUNG PAY.  (Somewhat ironic because many of the Samsung products I've purchased came from there.) As a Merchant myself, I am not required to accept anyone's credit card in any form.   Now .... if these details which were previously provided are disturbing to Samsung ....one would logically expect Samsung to take note and move more quickly toward addressing and correcting the issue/s rather than attack the messenger. I can only agree ... Samsung Pay SUPPORT sucks.   Ive had many Samsung devices over the years .... and have occasionally used tech support successfully on rare occasions when needed.  However ... SPay has been an experience I have no desire to go forward with.  Over these now many (6) months since the S3 release they continue to stumble have have yet to resolve or even acknowledge a problem a half year after the fact.  Businesses I deal with are now REFUSING to even accept it apparently due to constant difficulties with customers' "not-so-streamlined" checkouts.  If it takes more than 6 months to get an answer from tech support than there is something BAD WRONG.  I sincerely hope this isnt a universal problem with Samsung but this has been such an ordeal I'm not sure I will ever investigate any more products.  I had stopped wearing a watch almost 2 decades ago ..... however the first Gear changed that ... the following Gear S was a great improvement.  The S3 however has been such a pain in the A$$ that ive pretty much decided the watch is no longer worth the effort.  Im in Europe right now and although there is no chance of using S Pay here ... i cant even get through a half day of battery now.   (This is a replacement) The watch is no longer even worth wearing and Samsung Pay crappy support has made me decide to become watch-free once again.   Thanks Samsung Pay Support ... for saving me from even EVER considering using the service again! ... To be clear ... I have had MANY calls with Samsung Pay Support .... each and every time has been a TOTAL WASTE of time. Not once have they had ANYTHING to offer although it was CLEAR, from not only what they were saying, and more especially what they were NOT saying or asking, that they were WELL aware of the problem with no answers. In the first calls I was treated as if they hadn't heard of the issue.  But they never have me step through any procedures... they never instructed that. They aparently already knew there was a serious problem.  When I contacted "regular" Samsung (non-SP) support ... they seemed well aware of the problem and xfered to SP support.  Samsung Pay support has been a total waste other than to reveal the total incompetence of EVERY support personal I've spoken ...and more exasperating the inability to get to ANY supervisor or more senior technical person despite MANY explicit requests. The ONLY decent clues and positive revelations have come from THIS very forum and frankly YOUR specific interactions with the viewers. If SamsungPay Support was paying ANY attention to the activity in this forum I suspect this problem could have been identified and solved months ago.  True or not, they specifically told me they DID NOT pay attention to this forum.  What a shame!  I have absolutely no confidence or even clue that this issue is even close to being solved or that they are even making an effort to acknowledge it!  It is a pitty but it has helped me already make my future purchasing decisions. It isn't like this is a "new" issue ... in FACT it is the problem that has been constantly occuring since release in NOVEMBER last year.  Samsung Pay "support" (such that it is) has been consistantly WORTHLESS yet still hasn't directly admitted there is a problem.  There carefully worded response after months of repeated calls was "it appears there may be an issue" with some of the devices.  NO $#!+ !!!  Mind you ... this carefull wording is NOT an admission.  Additionally I was SPECIFICALLY told they did NOT have much contact or input from this forum .... I explicitly told them "they probably should as it has been FAR MORE HELP than ALL the calls to SP Support combined.   I also followed that SP Support has been the worst of any company I've dealt and as the owner of 2 companies that do tech support I know a bit about it....and that she would be FIRED for her sorry performance and lack of scheduled follow through. (She was only one of several "non-follow through" agents ..... the others still have never replied) The fact that Samsung Pay support continues to let affected users "chase their tails", wasting time calling their banks and credit card companies, resetting their phones, watches, etc or otherwise looking for an answer is INEXCUSABLE.   I was finally able to get a working device although via NO HELP from SAMSUNG. My carrier (T-Mobile) became aware of the problem and was also aware of the poor Samsung "Support" problems and exchanged the device for a newer one THAT WORKED! And as a side note: Someone who had posted here and been able to exchange their unit noticed to the effect that the newer working unit seemed to have a looser bezzel than the tighter (better manufactured) older unit. I've been thru the same thing .... Im beginning to think it isnt us, it isnt anything we've installed, it is a SAMSUNG issue. The fact that despite numerous phone calls to support, Samsung's "silence" is deafening! ... and itself says a lot.  Not once have I been called back despite their assurances.  I am passed PI$$ED OFF at this point and Samsung support has lost credibility. IT has been a month and other than the dozens of wasted hours spent,  I am no closer to a solution, and beginning to realize Samsung doesnt have a clue either and doesnt even have the integrity to admit it ...leaving customers like us in limbo.  I own two companies and have a technical support staff.  If my employees handled the situations like this, they would be FIRED!  It is time it appears to focus in the external forums ... I also suspected that problem as well due to external posts on Reddit and XDA-Developers forums ...but I HAVE wipped and reinstalled without any change.  Frankly ...I personally think the problem is within the Gear Manager itself.  I have got an enormous amount of time already invested .... FAR MORE than any convienience the feature MIGHT have provided.   I was just burnned TWICE by the Note7 recall so this BS and lack of intelligent response from Sammy isnt sitting very well with me at this point. Ive been (past tense) a loyal Samsung customer ... but given the trouble and lack of response over these last few months ... I went out and bought 2 Lenovos.  Samsung needs to get their $#!+ together! ...and FAST or they may be dealing with class action suits.  Although I've seen videos ... I havent actually met anyone first-hand that has actually got this "prominentally featured function" to actually work .... nor has Samsung been able to provide any substantial guidance so that I might utilize the feature as claimed ...despite my substantial efforts. i just WASTED another hour+ with Samsung .... and as in my previous 2 sessions NOTHING was really accomplished.  It seems impossible to get to ANYONE that even acknowledges there might be a problem let alone get to anyone who actually might be "working on it" or have them follow up as promised or suggested.   THIS IS A PROBLEM.  While it may be working for some ... it obviously is NOT working for many others. The Samsung forums are "shallow" about these failures but the 3rd party external forums sure aren't!   The Samsung Pay was the premier selling point of teGear S3.  If it isnt going to work ... I want to know it NOW before I WASTE any more time.    So far I think every call has been a total waste and has only added to the frustration and obviously makes me question the wisdom of EVER buying ANY other Samsung product if this is the way they are going to deal with customers. ... Ive been having this same issue SINCE THE DAY the thing was released!  I have YET you get it to accept even one card (the same cards previously used fine in my Note7.  I have spent dozens of hours, in the phone stores, on the phone, and especially direct with Samsung.  Samsung, even after multiple calls has been ABSOLUTELY NO HELP and has yet to offer even one recomendation. In watching the non-Sammy forums, this seems to be a VERY common problem and still without explaination. With the BS I went through with the recall of the Note7 (BOTH TIMES), the transfer and resetup of extensive infor into the much lesser S7, and now not getting this "stuff" to work ...and after a full month not knowing if it ever will ..... I can only now question IS IT REALLY WORTH IT! The one reason I got this watch over my previous was the Samsung Pay ...and it has proven WORTHLESS. Worse still, I gave up a perfectly good watch and sim card to get  THIS GRIEF. I have had S2, S4, Note(1), Note2, Note3, Note4, (no Note5!), S6, Note7, S7 Gear, GearS, Tab, Tab2, Tab2, ATIV, ATIV Book9+ .... so ive been a pretty loyal client ...  but frankly ... im pretty pi$$ed at this point because of the lack of any meaningful response ...and ready to pitch it ALL.
