I've returned my previous G9 to the distributor and bought a new one. The new one was manufactured in December (old one was August), came with firmware 1009. Revision/version is still the same. It seems way better. There's: - no overheating - no dead pixels - no backlight leaks - no flickering backlight - no backlight temperature / whitepoint drift from center to edge In normal use, i haven't seen a single scanline in over a week now. That includes desktop, various graphics and 3D apps, and gaming. I can invoke the gamma shift (what people cause flicker, which isn't really backlight flicker - i had that as a separate issue) with the dreaded Oculus gif that's been making the rounds, and *some* tests, but it's much less pronounced, and there are no scanlines. Nearly all inversion and pixel walk tests don't manage to provoke it, and look much better (color much more uniform between one polarity and the opposite one). Barring any new issues, i think this one's a keeper.

I've discovered another weird one yesterday - it sometimes randomly ignores the Off Timer setting. I keep it disabled, but yesterday, in the middle of a work day, it popped up the off timer countodwn, and i had to dismiss it to continue working. I double checked afterwards, and yes, the Off Timer and Eco Timer were disabled in the OSD. So it looks like it randomly "forgets" things there too.

For some reason, it appears my G9 does not respect the Off Timer settings. I keep both it and Eco Timer turned OFF. Yet i just got the "monitor is about to turn off" countdown OSD popup in the middle of a work day, and had to dismiss it to prevent it from turning off. Is there ANY part of this product that actually does its job and isn't just a science fair project? This is a disgrace.

Someone on Reddit figured out a workaround, and it's as bizarre as you'd expect from this mess of a product. If you set the color settings in SDR mode, then switch to HDR mode (in Windows 10), set the color settings *again*, then return to SDR mode, it will retain the color settings. Apparently, there's a separate SDR and HDR custom color mode, and the HDR overwrites the SDR settings on every restart. Was firmware for this thing written by a dozen monkeys smashing keyboard keys randomly?

Yeah, i ended up turning off VRR off too. It's not the flicker that annoys me as much as the fact that even if i calibrate the monitor to 2.2 gamma, i can never be sure what i'm looking at is actually 2.2 - if i'm editing a photo, a pattern or color in the photo (or who knows which part of the screen) might be causing it to dim, and i wouldn't know it were, unless i move things around all the time, testing if it's dimmed or showing the correct image. Just absurd.

August production, recently serviced by Samsung (panel replaced), latest downloadable firmware, still exhibiting the same issue - scanlines with VRR on, or just regular whole screen dimming / gamma shift with VRR off. Nearly all my Android phones were Samsungs, all my TVs are Samsungs, my earphones were Samsung’s, heck, my washing machine is Samsung’s. No more. This monitor has managed to completely sour my view of their products. This company is a joke.

August G9, sent back to Samsung for a panel swap due to a hot pixel. Firmware 1008.1. Can confirm, still an issue. To add insult to injury, setting G to 49 is the only way i can get the whole screen flicker to stop on at least some pixel-walk/inversion patterns. But i have to do it every time it wakes up from sleep. Ridiculous. Samsung, stop ignoring the issues and fix your expensive piece of half-baked hardware and software.
