Keith, Im not sure you can set up Surround sound with only one R1 and your soundbar. Samsung is of little help with these surround issues. I have a series 9 curved TV with a Samsung Soundbar and two R1s. I usually use the Multiroom App to set up the array. One time I was actually able to set up surround with the TV by going to the Speaker menu and getting all three speakers to connect, but that was only once. Last time I had to use the Multiroom app again. All my speakers are wireless so before anything works I have to go to the TV and look at the additional settings in the Sound menu to insure the soundbar is there. The TV is supposed to detect the speakers via bluetooth. My speakers, and I believe its mostly the soundbar, drops out frequently. It may be my WiFi network, who knows. I then have to go through the process of connecting all the speakers again. Ugh! Don't know if you solved your issue yet, but thought I'd throw in an answer.

Samsung: Im still waiting for an answer to my question! Can I connect my soundbar to the TV via USB and still connect my rear speakers wirelessly to the soundbar? Right now everything is connected via wireless network. Anyone???? Thanks.

Grouping the array via the TV rather than using the Multiroom app on my iPad seems to work better, but I'm still noticing the Sound Bar trying to break connection or actually breaking connection. The speakers still continue to produce sound, but I get a disconnect message on the Soundbar and then it goes back to normal operation in a few seconds. I'm wondering if I can connect the Soundbar to the TV via USB. Will I still be able to wirelessly connect the two rear R1s to the array if I use a USB cable for the sounbar? The soundbar seems to be creating the problem.

I have seen many complaints in the forums concerning this issue with much newer equipment. They basically complain about their Soundbar dropping out. I was able to reconnect everything yesterday. I set up the surround sound through the TV rather than the Multiroom app and there was no drop out last night. So, the problem could be a lot of things. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Let's see what today brings.

This update has been around for quite some time, I think. I believe I have tried to download it to a thumb drive before and could not get it to be accepted by the TV. Of course, I could have done some thing wrong too. Is ther no way to force the TV to get the update? as for the repeaters, my router is two floors above the TV and I can't move it, so I got repeaters thinking that might be a solution. Evidently I was wrong. It may degrade the signal too much. Can you suggest anything else I could try?

1. I will try to find an empty flash drive tomorrow. The question is why can this version not be found on the update page of the Tv set? Seems like an unneccesary hassle. I also think I tried to do this in the past with no success. I will try this again tomorrow. 2. I have not tried disconnecting the repeaters to see if that makes a difference. I have four of them around the house. I don't know if that is too many repeaters to be useful. Thanks.

I have added a few wifi repeaters to my home recently because I thought the problem was distance from my Router. That didn't seem to help. My TV software version is: 1550. I keep checking for updates but the TV says none are available.

My Samsung TV and Soundbar are 5 years old. I am trying to use the multiroom app to connect my Soundbar and two rear R1 speakers. This problem just started for me a few weeks ago. My system would occassionally drop out in the past but nothing like recently. Now, I cannot keep it connected. It constantly drops the array and reverts to the TV internal speakers. I have tried restoring everything to factory, at least the TV. Not sure I did the sound bar (all I did to the soundbar is unplug and replug). By the way, the TV drops the soundbar even when I am not using the multiroom app, but just the bluetooth Soundconnect for the soundbar only. This is very frustrating.

I have a different model soundbar, but all I can control is the volume level on each. I do this through the TV. Just click on the multiroom volume control and adjust each speakers volume. If you look at the Multiroom app there is an equalizer you can play with, but once the speakers are grouped it wont let you play with the equalizer. Not sure if this helps.

Recently my Multiroom speakers drop out frequently. There are times when I can go to the TV Sound and finds the array listed and just click on it to restore. Other times the TV loses the array totally and I have to reconnect the Multiroom again. This is becoming a real headache. The TV is a Samsung UN65JS9000FXZA. The Soundbar is a Samsung HW-J7500ZA I also have two R1 rears connected via the Samsung Multiroom App. version 4145. Any ideas would be appreciated.

This happens to me all the time. I go through all the steps to re-pair and sometimes it works, sometimes not. It is sooooooo frustrating.

I don't blame you from steering away from this setup. If I had it to do over again, I'd probably look at a solution from Bose or some other manufacturer. That said, my setup has worked fairly well now for quite some time. It still, on occassion loses connection to my wi-fi, but when that happens I now merely go to the TV remote and reconnect the array. Not that big a deal, and it doesnt happen often. This system wll never be as good as wired surround sound, but it's not terrible either. I just wish there were more options for adjusting the sound quality; the multiroom app is not useful at all.

Just an FYI. I went into the Multiroom App and turned OFF alerts on all speakers. I no longer get the annoying bell sound when the soundbar searches for my wifi connection, and it seems to stay connected most of the time. I did this about a week ago just as an experiment and, lo and behold, the array seems to work much better with the alerts turned OFF. I have no idea why. Anyone else try this? Still no comment from Samsung moderators!!!!!!

Is Samsung not commenting because this thread is marked as solved? It is sure not solved for me. I am considering going back to my original setup without the multiroom app and rear speakers. I don't remember any issues until I connected the rears, so I'm thinking its not really the soundbar but the multiroom app that causes the disconnect/reconnect issues. Anybody try this?

I just read through the EU boards relating to this setup. Most of their issues have to do with sound quality. I'm not enough of an audiophile to comment on the quality of the sound. My R1s seem to just repeat much of the same sounds as the soundbar. I am usually watching a network program or some sports program, so I'm not in a position to add much to their frustrations. My issue is the frequent connect/disconnect/reconnect issue. Many times the array will reconnect itself after a warning that the soundbar has lost connection., an annoying dinging type noise, by the way. Sometimes the TV will revert back to it's internal speakers. Then I usually can reconnect the array by going into the TV sound menu, open the speaker list, and reconnect the surround array. The TV rarely loses the entire array, causing me to reconnect everything through the Multiroom app, although this has happened in the past. I just don't know why this is happening and Samsung has been MUM on this issue. If it is a weak wifi signal I can deal with that. Is it possible that this could be an issue with the WiFi component inside the soundbar? (mine is a K-7500, by the way not a K-650). If it's an issue that others are having then I would expect some comment from a Samsung Moderator. I don't think that's too much to ask. SAMSUNG, ARE YOU OUT THERE?

Thanks for the suggestion. The Samsung Moderators claim to read all these posts. It would be nice just to hear them say we hear you and are working on it, or we hear you and don't have an answer, so live with it. Silence is not golden in these forums.

Well, that didn't work. Back to all items on my wifi range extender. Still losing connection frequently. Sure wish Samsung moderators would weigh in on this issue. This is not fun.

I tried your suggestion, set the TV wifi to the 5Ghz channel, reset the sound bar,(maybe, I say this because when I hold down the + and - on the soundbar it does not do what you said it would.) ,and reset my R1s. I could not get the soundbar or R1s to go to the 5Ghz channel, so they are still on my router extension. Not sure which channel. So, the only change I think I made was the TV. Also, It seems I have no choice but to go through the Multiroom app to configure the surrounds. My TV finds the soundbar but not the R1s. Don't know why.

Hello! Samsung Moderators! Still waiting on a response from Samsung as to why this constant connection/disconnection and reconnection of the Samsung soundbar from WiFi is occurring while using the Multiroom app and wifi. Does Samsung have an answer? Or at least a theory? Is it an app problem or a wifi problem? It would certainly help in troubleshooting a solution. Thank you.

Yes, very similar problems. I have my speakers connected to a dual band Range Extender because my dual band modem is quite a ways from the TV and speaker array. I really can't say which band they are connecting to, but was told earlier by Samsung phone support to connect to 2.4 Ghz channel as that has greater range. I recently upgraded my internet speed but that didn't change anything. At this point it is merely an annoyance because usually the sound doesn't revert back to the TV internal speakers. When that does happen, I go to the TV sound menu and reconnect the array. The TV maintains the multiroom array in the menu so it's not like I have to reinstall everything. It's still an annoyance that should not happen. I would like to hear from Samsung Moderators as to why they think this is happening. They claim to read all these posts but are slow to respond.

Sorry to hear you are still having issues. I personally think the Samsung Multiroom app is causing alot of these problems. My system has been connecting ok when I turn on the TV, but quite often, during an evening of TV watching, my soundbar will lose wifi and reconnect. The sound it makes when doing this is just annoying, like a loud ding or something. 90% of the time, it reconnects and is fine until the next blip. Sometimes I have to go to the TV's sound menu and reconnect the soundbar and surround speakers because it has reverted back to the TV internal speakers. It's an annoyance which should not be happening. I can't explain why it is happening, and since it doesn't actually affect the sound itself, which is weird, I have not tried a complete reset of the system. I recently upgraded my wifi to a faster speed, but that has not changed the reaction of the sound system. I just think Samsung needs to keep working on this software for the multiroom app. I'd be interested if anyone else has a similar issue.

Sorry to hear that. My R1s do not act that way. When I tap the + button it increases the sound of that speaker only, not the entire array. Not sure what to tell you. Maybe the Samsung moderator has an answer.

When did you get these updates? My latest update, which was a few weeks ago seemed to fix my problems with the sound system connection. Have you tried turning up the volume on the rears using the + button on top of the speakers? I've done that a few times.

I find the answer that your R5s are not compatible hard to believe. I think you got bad advise from your support person. The R5s should work just as well as my R1s, albeit more expensive. Support for this system is very sketchy. Samsung obviously doesn't spend much time training their support people on the Multiroom app. I have two R1s connected through the Multiroom app to my Samsung 9000 series TV and Samsung 7500 soundbar. The sound is decent when they all connect. The issue was worse before the last TV software update from Samsung. Now the system usually connects when I turn on the TV. I sometimes have to go to the TV sound area using my TV remote and manually connect the multiroom speakers, but thats ok. The TV finds the app, just doesn't always connect to it. The Multiroom app needs alot of work. Keep in mind, you are really not getting 5.1 surround. It's somehow rated at 4.1. Why, I don't know. The sounds coming from the R1s seems to be mostly a repeat of what the soundbar is producing, but I don't watch a bunch of programming that is really 5.1 anyway. I don't find the sound to be awful, just not true surround sound, if you get my meaning. If I were you, I'd call support again and ask for someone who deals with the multiroom app. Good luck.

I'm sure you have tried the obvious of tapping the + sign on top of the R1 to increase the volume of that speaker, but I will throw that out there anyway. I don't think your synch or volume problem has anything to do with your WiFi. My system has been better since the last Samsung TV update. It now connects automatically most of the time. I did have one hiccup on Saturday, but that's minor compared to the past. I also lost the remote pairing during that episode, but after much troubleshooting, and Samsung phone support telling me my TV bluetooth board was likely bad, I got the remote repaired and all has been good again. I have about decided there is no ultimate or permanent solution to the sound system reliability. If everything does not connect as it should, it's a crapshoot getting it back together. Too many variables involved for this to work flawlessly every time since they all have to connect individually to your WiFi.

So, are you saying you now connected your Soundbar to the TV via optical cable and it solved all your volume issues? My source is listed as my Series 9000 TV, but I am all wireless. The Tv, sound bar, and R1 rears all connect wirelessly through my WiFi network. Sound is good when I can keep them connected.

Interesting. Samsung told me to turn off 5 Ghz channel. My setup still cuts out on its own all the time. Many times I lose the remote pairing as well. That's really fun when you are watching a show.
