I finally figured out why the map only shows up sporadically. I've been using it during the winter. No, cold doesn't affect it. Long Sleeves Do. I wore a short sleeved shirt and the map showed up three days in a row. I wore it again today with a long sleeved shirt, but made sure the shirt didn't cover the GF2P. worked again.
The problem is that the GF2P GPS radio isn't strong enough to catch a good continuous signal when a garment covers it - Even just a shirt, like a Carhartt.
I live in Vermont. I guess I'll just have to retire my GF2P for the winter, and unfortunately the winters are long here. Of course I could wear the GF2P on the outside of my coat and gloves, but that defeates the purpose of having a heart rate monitor which needs to be flush to your skin. The HRM is the reason I purchased it.
My Samsung phones GPS have always worked when worn in an outside pocket. I just assumed the GF2P GPS would work through the sleeve of a shirt. Unfortunately it doesn't. Apparently it works just enough to provide occasional location info for pace, etc. but it doesn't provide a map when covered by a long sleeve shirt.

The map has only registered twice on my GF2P out of 10 walking sessions. Location is turned on. My sessions record speed/pace, distance walked while gaining/losing elevation (called total ascent and descent when recorded to Samsung Health app), but no map - except for the two times. Since speed and elevation change are recorded I have to assume the GPS is working. I have made sure that location is turned on in GF2P. Two images are attached from the Samsung Health app of walking sessions on successive days. One with a map and an elevation graph and the other without either. As both show, the data is from the GF2P. I'm sending the Health app screenshots because they are easy to capture on the Samsung phone. The workout screens on the GF2P reflect the maps shown on the Health app.
Of the two times the map is present, only one shows a graph of elevation included with the graphs of speed and heart rate. I live in Northern Vermont so elevation gain/loss is a way of life in workouts. I am quite disappointed that the elevation information along with the map of the route is so sporadically recorded.
What may be causing the loss of information, besides a poor GPS in the watch?

I don't have an issue with the number of steps. I don't really care. I'm interested in the distance and the distance is wrong. Used two different GPS trackers at the same time Samsung Health showed 1.8 miles the other two showed 1.98 miles and 2.0 miles. Another time on the same route, Samsung Health showed 1.54 miles . So the GPS tracker is not very good in Samsung health
