When I remaster a photo in Samsung Gallery app, and then open Google Photos, both the original and remastered photos show up!

Update – only the original version gets backed up. Remastered or otherwise edited pictures do not get backed up at all.

At the same time or does the original upload first then the edited one?

Samsung gallery uses OneDrive, so Google photos is totally different so the second you take the picture, it automatically uploads then anything you edit uploads after that

I made the edits without having Google Photos backup turned on, and then when I turned it on, and opened Google Photos, the originals and the edited versions can be seen in the app. At the same time, when going to Google Photos on the web, they are not visible.

Its possibly saving the edit instead of over writing the original

Nope, it's supposed to overwrite.

The default. Which is Save. This bug has been introduced in Beta 3.

I'm guessing that Samsung gallery hides the original once remastered
