I am writing to express my significant dissatisfaction with Samsung's current software distribution practices. The strategy of restricting software updates to newly released devices, thereby necessitating annual upgrades for consumers, is highly problematic. While I acknowledge the necessity of hardware advancements, the fragmentation of software across your product line is a considerable concern. The recurring justification that "the hardware on previous devices won't support the new software" is, in my opinion, an inadequate explanation. We urge Samsung to re-evaluate its approach to software accessibility and strive for greater consistency across its device ecosystem. The current situation is causing considerable frustration among your customer base. STOP GATE KEEPING SOFTWARE!!!

I hear you but Samsung is a business trying to maximize profits.... why would you make your old products as great as your newest?
Thats the good thing about android tho. Someone will figure out a way to port the newest software features to older devices but no company is going to offer older devices all the advancements of the newest device.

With older hardware, there comes limitations. As with the saying the older the hardware the harder it is for the software to run on it. Therefore some features will not be compatible with older hardware. That's why some features do not come to older hardware. The biggest example is the privacy display that's on the S26 Ultra but not the S25 Ultra that's due to it being hardware specific and the screens not being compatible in the S25 Ultra with the technology.

Apparently they have tested the Privacy Display for the S25U but it didn't happen.

That doesn't mean it's software driven. The challenges were most likely hardware issues.

It's the same with the s8/s9 having the force press home button instead of the under display fingerprint. They were having issues with the fingerprint so they kept the force press.

I personally would rather have the force press as it's way more useful then an under display fingerprint

sammobile is a rumor mill publication. Ever notice how 95% of the time his predictions are wrong? "According to my sources" equals "I was high and bs'ing with some guy at the bar, and he said..." or somesuch non-official scenario. The only time he's right is when his info comes from samsung.com, bc no one ever looks at the newsroom there. Lol

Take everything you read there as wishful thinking, and with a grain of salt! : )

I also wish to point out that the article in question you shared states right within the article that the feature ran into technical difficulties resulting in a delay which resulted in the feature debuting on the S26U which just goes to support my original comment. I'm not going to argue logistics with you on why this feature is there and not here. It's a pointless means to no end.

I don't have an issue with not having the latest and greatest. As long as my device performs well and doesn't give me issues, I'm a happy camper. And I certainly don't expect a company to give me the same features or abilities that a newer device may have. Do you expect an auto maker to give you the same bells and whistles a newer car has? Do you expect a company to provide you with an upgrade to a product just because a newer one has a feature you don't have?

A company isn't required to give you anything. 7 years of major OS and security updates is rather generous and one should be happy about that. It used to be a lot shorter time frame forcing one to upgrade when the security updates stopped.
