If an app forces itself as vertical and you hold the phone horizontal, the home gesture does not work. It trys to go home but reopens the same window you are on.
Essentially you are stuck unless you turn the phone vertical, then the home Gesture works.
Don't think I've had this issue specifically. If AUTO ROTATE is on, it does flip to the landscape mode in a wonky way after needing it for a video app. But it usually snaps back if it mistakenly holds that view as soon as I hit the homescreen wallpaper
Plus I usually push the button on the phone at the bottom right corner if I don't have auto rotate on.
