The carriers prefer you to use Google Messages, this saves them a ton of money not having to maintain massive servers for RSC messaging. That is why they all have or will discontinue Samsung messages with RCS. Carriers will only do SMS/ MMS as a fallback when RCS can't be sent. Carriers also like the idea that Google Message when not on WiFi use your data plan to send messages. This will force some that are still not on unlimited plans to upgrade.
