Google Messages notification is scilent by default. I went to settings, notifications, app notifications, sounds and vibrations making sure thats on. Then directly to Google Messages settings doing the same. EVERY setting with sound is ON. I even checked individual chats. When reinstalling the App, I noticed the Mute Symbol next to the Google Messages name. Despite all the above listed being done. I have no idea what happened, so as of now I am stuck using Samsung Messages instead.

Did you try clearing the device cache? Hold power and volume up to get to that menu
