Voicemail is being sent to my files instead of voicemail app.

That's normal. And it's from 8.5. It's like recording a message.

I think you can disable that. I had a situation like that and didn't know why until I called someone to help and its a function in your phone you can turn off

This is a feature. You can turn it off. Open Phone app, three dots select settings. Select Direct voicemail, and turn off.

Voice mail then goes to carrier.
