Should be a way to reduce the size of the applications on phone.

There is. Go to "Home Screen" in Settings. Change the home screen apps and app drawer from 4x5 to 5x5 or 5x6. Then, drag any app you want to the dock apps at the bottom of the home screen. Now, all your apps will appear much smaller.
