Suggestion for Consistency in Status Bar Icons

Hi @USBetaModerator3 . When reading this, Please refer to previous posts:(written in korean)

One of the changes in One UI 7 is the modification of the status bar battery icon.

The battery icon has been elongated horizontally and now includes a charge level indicator within the icon, making it more intuitive and visually clean.

This battery icon has undergone continuous changes from Beta 1 to Beta 3, and in Beta 3, it has become even larger, making it more intuitive.

However, aside from the battery icon, other icons (such as Wi-Fi signal strength, cellular communication, VoLTE, alarm icons, etc.) are smaller in size compared to the battery icon, leading to a lack of consistency, as pointed out by many users.

Galaxy devices with Infinity-O Displays minimize wasted space at the top of the screen.

As a result, the status bar can display more information, enabling a more intuitive user experience.

Considering this, wouldn't it be a good idea to adopt a bold design for all the icons in the status bar, so the battery icon, clock, and other icons harmonize and provide a consistent feel?

Although my design skills are not great, and I couldn't create many or very polished icons, I think a bold look like the one above would be ideal.

This would not only give a consistent appearance to the battery and clock icons but also create a stable and satisfying experience with all the icons.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your suggestions and for referencing the previous posts to provide additional context. Your feedback is thorough, well-articulated, and offers valuable insights into areas of improvement for One UI 7. Let us address the key points raised across these posts:

1. Status Bar Design Consistency

You and others have highlighted the inconsistency in the design of the status bar icons, such as the size difference between the battery icon and other elements (Wi-Fi, signal strength, VoLTE, etc.). The idea of adopting a bold, uniform design for all icons in the status bar is excellent. A harmonized approach would not only enhance visual appeal but also improve usability by making all icons equally prominent and legible.

2. Squircle (Square-Circle) Curvature

The suggestion to apply squircle curvature consistently throughout the UI, including quick panels and music panels, is a great observation. Consistency in curvature across all UI elements would provide a cohesive and polished experience. This aligns with the feedback from other users who have expressed similar concerns about the current uneven application of design elements.

3. Animation Refinements

Your feedback on animations, such as the need for smoother ease-in/ease-out transitions and the addition of blur effects during animations (e.g., unlocking the phone or launching apps), is insightful. Animations play a critical role in delivering a premium and fluid experience, and these enhancements would undoubtedly contribute to a more sophisticated feel.

4. Customizability of Design Elements

The suggestion to provide users with options to customize UI elements, like the status bar’s design or the level of information displayed, is compelling. Allowing users to choose between bold and minimalist styles or control the amount of information displayed would cater to a wider range of preferences and elevate the user experience.

5. Naming Consistency

The inconsistency in naming conventions across the UI (e.g., Galaxy S24) is an important detail that impacts user perception of coherence. Standardizing these terms across the interface would help create a unified and professional look.

Your suggestions demonstrate a deep understanding of UI/UX design principles and the user experience. We will ensure that these ideas, along with the thoughtful proposals from the previous posts, are shared with the development team for consideration. While not all changes may be immediately implementable, feedback like this plays a crucial role in shaping the evolution of One UI.

Thank you again for your dedication to improving the user experience and for presenting your suggestions in such a respectful and constructive manner. If anyone else in the community has thoughts or additional suggestions, please feel free to join the discussion!

Regards,

One UI Beta Team
