Notifications pop-up (when long-pressing an icon) can only be dismissed once, singularly, after long-press is initiated. In order to dismiss the next notification, the long-press has to be re-initiated, allowing for only the next notification to be swiped away. Pre-beta, the next notification would automatically cue without having to re-initiate a long press.
