Yea, Google would have to add those features since it's their app. As for edge lighting, there are settings to tweak it a bit including making the lighting thicker and changing the color. I wouldn't expect more screen coverage though else it would contradict the name.
That is true as that would be on Google. But as of UI 4.1 on the S22 series, Google messages is the default messaging app. So, it would behoove Google to allow customization, or Samsung releases their own RCS format, which has never been mentioned if they perhaps will do that.
