SuggestionsMy new Galaxy S25 Ultra runs One UI 8, and I quickly noticed that app, folder, widget, and shortcut icon labels feel significantly less customizable and less readable than in previous One UI versions! My concerns are as follows:
Single-line labels: App, folder, and shortcut labels are limited to one line, so most labels are truncated. This makew icons harder to identify at a glance. A multi-line label option like in previous versions would greatly improve clarity (and functionality, for those of us with custom shortcuts labeled similarly at the beginning).
Text size is too small and not adjustable: Label text appears smaller than before, and there is currently no way to independently adjust label text size. System font size does not affect home screen and app drawer labels.
No font customization for labels: Unlike other UI elements, icon labels do not respond to system font changes. We cannot change the font style used for labels, which leads to inconsistent typography across One UI.
Poor scaling behavior: Label text does not scale consistently with other UI elements. App labels that are too small relative to the icons, while widgets and other UI elements scale differently. This all makes the home screen feel really unbalanced and for me, unpleasant to engage with.
Readability and contrast: Depending on wallpaper or theme, label text can become harder to read. More control over label color, contrast, and background (like a subtle shadow or transparent background option) would greatly improve accessibility.
Previous One UI versions (and Good Lock modules) offered more control over icon labels, so One UI 8 feels like a huge step backwards... I am begging the developers for the following:
- Optional multi-line app labels
- Separate label text size control
- Allow labels to respect system font selection
- Better scaling consistency with UI and screen zoom
- Optional label color/contrast controls
- Expansion of Good Lock support for icon labels
One UI is known for customization and accessibility! Improving icon label options will help realign One UI 8 with those strengths. Thank you for your consideration.
