As of this recent update (beta 3) if you tap outside of the apps in the recents screen, it just closes recents and goes back to whatever app was open, as if you had pressed the back button (or gesture). Imo this is less intuitive and far less useful (not to mention inconsistent) than just going home like it used to do.
Also I know I'm the minority here but this completely hinders how I use my phone, since I use physical gestures ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.i38.gesture) almost exclusively, but I can only have a gesture for recents, so normally I'd just tap outside to go home, which I can no longer do. I know it doesn't sound like a big deal to have to use the actual build in gesture to go home, but the s23 units is so massive that I practically need two hands to reach the bottom of the screen
