This feature has not worked for any of my devices in years. Will this 8.5 update fix this issue?

Hey Samiam_! Thanks for visiting the Community! Can you explain in a little more detail what you mean by keeping the screen on while viewing?

Screen has a timeout but as long as you are looking at the screen it stays on. The screen cuts off once the set time has passed. The keep screen on while viewing feature was designed to keep the screen on while viewing. It is not working

This has been a samsung feature for years. I noticed it stopped working a few years ago. Screen has a timeout but as long as you are looking at the screen it stays on. If Samsung has done away with the feature, it still shows up as an option in the settings.

It still works for me like it always has.  I am on Android 16, OneUI8.0. Sometimes the front camera may not be able to read your eye movements if there is a bright light shining directly on the screen (including direct sunlight) or if you are in a dark room.  Even a reflection  in your glasses, if you wear them, can cause the camera not see your eyes.  The feature is controlled by the front camera.  You can somewhat alleviate this by downloading Good Lock and the display assistant.  With display assistant you can set certain apps to keep the screen on for up to 10 minutes or add a shortcut to the quick panel to keep your screen on for 30 minutes at a time.

If you have not yet received the latest Google Play system update that removed the cache clearing from recovery mode, try clearing the cache partition.

I have tried everything and nothing works. I am currently on beta testing for 8.5. I will try out good lock to see if that helps, I am just not a fan of using additional apps for baked in feature that should work as intended.

It may be an issue with the beta that needs to be reported.  Assuming that by "tried everything" means that you have adjusted ambient lighting and that the front camera is unobstructed.  In any case, the display assistant is very useful for things like the phone app to keep the screen from timing out when you need to navigate a voice prompt menu.  It's not necessarily a separate app to take the place of a baked in setting, but in this case may help you if nothing else does.

I tried one last resort before using Good Lock App. I registered my face for faceunlock then turned the keep screen on feature off-on. It seems to be working now under different lighting conditions. This shouldn't have needed to be done for the feature to work, but am happy that it's working. This is something I've seen many users complain about for years. Maybe Samsung should make a side note next to the feature to help new and existing users. I have z flip, so if they can get this feature on the cover screen that would be awesome.

I have never had an issue with the feature.  I think originally there was some note in the tips section that the camera must be able to see your eye movement and can be affected by glasses or bright light (or no light).  I do follow regular maintenance routines, such as keeping the screen clean and using the auto optimization scheduled restart feature.

Lucky you. But for the last 6 years it has been an issue for me. I have been communicating with samsung reps about this quite a few times and they were unable to help. I've tried all the same steps on previous devices and it still didn't workm Since I am apart of the beta testing program I decided to give me to two cents and feedback. Thank you for offering assistance.
