Are you referring to the width of the bars? Only the length can be resized.

In my case, I was thinking width or height, depending on how you see it.
I tried putting an image behind it, but it didn't help me feel better about the hefty bar design. 🙁

This is my current setup. Resize the length and go vertical. Also added some images.
