Thoughts on One UI 8.5 Looking More Like iOS

I understand that thereโ€™s a percentage of features Samsung may share or take inspiration from iPhones, but Iโ€™m curious why the new One UI 8.5 beta looks and feels so much like an iPhoneโ€”just more upgraded.

Is this part of a design direction Samsung is moving toward, or is it mainly about usability and consistency? Iโ€™d love to hear other usersโ€™ thoughts and Samsungโ€™s perspective on this.

It's not just Samsung. According to Android Authority, just about every Android OEM has come to the conclusion that Apple's design language, including the Liquid Glass that debuted on iOS 26, is far better than Google's Material 3 Expressive, which is why many of them have started copying Apple.

I don't see any similarities between the two. IOS lately took a lot of features from android yes but not the opposite.
For the glass design it's taken from windows vista

Every Android OEM is trying to poach iPhone users for their devices. If it looks like iOS then they have a better chance as it will be more familiar to them.

This is why no matter how controversial an iPhone idea is, liquid glass, removing the charging block, removing the headphone jack, Android OEMs will follow.

iPhone users also say the opposite, that the iOS UI is looking more and more like Android. Both copy each other and it is not anything new. I have never use an Apple device so I have nothing to compare that to in my 15 years of using Android UI. I am more concerned with functionality then aesthetics. But if making aesthetic choices like Samsung to mimicking another UI interferes with operability, then that is when it becomes an issue.

Similarities across platforms is fine. Apple was not first with the glass look. Every modern UI has this look. As someone who has used both platforms extensively Samsung has its own swag and I prefer it.

What I don't like is where Samsung is adopting old iOS practices.. Like making it harder to do simple things.. While iOS has already adopted the android way.. Very backwards in my opinion... Is like, they want us to move to Apple by removing what used to make Samsung advanced.

If I wanted iOS I'd buy an iPhone. I'm not crazy about the 3D icons nor the glass look. The 3D icons is just taking us back to what was already done in the early 2000's and the glass look just reminds me of windows vista.

It's nice that Samsung gives you the option to use icon packs to set the phone up the way you like it.
