Unwanted auto-updating in the Google Play Store

Am I the only one experiencing unwanted automatic downloads in the Play Store even though I've unchecked auto-update on the Play store itself? It happens every time I open the Google Play Store and it's frustrating, VERY frustrating. Anybody have any suggestions please. I go into settings/apps/Google Play Store and force stop the app every time it occurs. I can't think of anything else I could do. I'm grateful for your help!

I was going to suggest

Force Stop
... then
Storage, Clear Cache
... for the Play Store app ...
but you've done that.
