It would be possible to give us the option or to make it the default of the system that the icons and widgets are more towards the edges, there is a lot of wasted space .

This was designed to symmetrically match the home screen grid. There isn't enough space to expand the icons and still have it appear visually pleasing.

Well it doesnt look visually appealing as is. This isn't ios, no need to baby us. Give us the option to at least do so. The width it's not a big deal but the vertical padding top and bottom is really bad

Very true, the icons can look bigger, there is a lot of wasted space. I have vision problems and for me they are very small.
