I recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy A13. With headphones, it seems like the volume is maximum when a call first starts, even though the volume slider is at the lowest setting. If I put the call in speakerphone mode, then back to headphones, the volume becomes normal. Here are the steps to reproduce the issue.

  1. Plug headphones into the headphone jack
  2. Make a phone call with the call volume set to minimum
  3. Your ears will be blasted with max volume
  4. Turn the volume up
  5. The first time you press the volume up button, the volume decreases from maximum to the level that the slider is actually at

I have tried disabling absolute volume, turning off the media volume limit, and restarting the phone but the issue persists. Does anyone have an idea why this is happening or how to fix it?

Hello, @mransaw. Welcome to the Community, we’re happy to have you here. This is a very strange situation that is occurring.

The first thing I would recommend is trying to use different headphones just to see if this can be reproduced, or if it could be something with the headphones themselves that you’re using. It could potentially be a compatibility situation here.

Next, You’ll want to make sure you have the latest software on the device. Please check out this link for those steps: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00077582/

If The symptoms still persist, or your phone is already up to date, the next step would be to try to clear the cache on the phone app. Just open your settings and navigate to Apps, find the phone app, then select storage and clear cache.

If that’s still not working, let’s make sure that a third-party application is not interfering with your device’s headphones which could be causing the situation to occur. The way to do this is by placing your device into safe mode. Please check out the following steps here:  https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00062983/

Note: If the symptoms do not occur, this lets us know that it’s a third-party application on your device that could be causing the interference. You’ll need to slowly remove applications from your device from newest to oldest if everything works properly in safe mode to resolve this.

The very last step we can perform here is to factory data reset your phone. Please make sure to back up any data prior to performing this step: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00062029

Try turning on volume limitations. Settings > Sounds and vibration > Volume > (click three dots in top left corner of volume page) > Media volume Limit. --this may help for now
