Hi, I'm having various troubles installing windows 11 (and windows 10 when I tried later) onto my 990 pro tb ssd. I am building a new pc. I have used the SSD before, on my old PC, if that matters at all.

Parts list:

cpu - amd ryzen 7 7800x3d

motherboard - gigabyte b650 gaming x ax

ram - 4x 16 gb sticks (2 kits) of G.SKILL Flare X5 Series

gpu - amd 7800 xt

ssd - samsung 990 pro 2 tb

I created a previous thread on the microsoft forums, and was directed here eventually:https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_11-windows_install/need-help-finishing-win...

Basically when I boot into BIOS, it doesn't show my SSD unless I have CSM enabled to choose it as a boot option. But either way if I have CSM disabled or enabled I can boot into my USB windows installer and choose my SSD as my install location. However, after the install finishes and it restarts, there is no windows on it as far as I can see. Even when I remove the USB and boot into the SSD as the only option, there is the reboot and select proper boot device screen for it.

Would love any help, thanks in advance!

If you haven't written "either way if I have CSM disabled or enabled", I would have said:

It's a Microsoft "it's a feature not a bug" syndrome, USB flashed Windows installers can't work if installers boot type and BIOS/firmware boot type does not match. Meaning:

- USB is CSM, BIOS/firmware is set to UEFI => won't work.
- USB is UEFI, BIOS/firmware is set to CSM => won't work.

However your issue is kinda different.

How about, cleaning the SSD first via:
- diskpart, list disk, select disk, clean

I've already tried that a few times, even right before the install with the repair button, and unfortunately doesn't work either. I'm thinking about buying another drive just to install windows on, and using this ssd as my storage since it has no problems on that part.

Interestingly, I just realized samsung magician doesn't recognize the SSD even though it shows up on disk manager /shrug

How about trying to ad-lib install any Linux distro to see if it's a SSD or BIOS issue.
