My seldom-used Samsung UN50J6200 TV developed horizontal black lines today that quickly devolved into screen flashing and abstract distortion. I noticed a smell of burning plastic and saw a very bright spot developing in the lower-left corner. Upon looking closer I could see what I thought was a crack in the plastic frame at the lower left of the TV. I touched it. It was then that I realized that it wasn't a crack but the frame was melting away from the screen. It burnt my finger.
I shut it off. I unplugged it. I became very disappointed.

If the TV is under warranty file a warranty claim to have it repaired. If the TV is not under warranty the cost to repair or replace it will be up to you. The repair would be expensive and better spent towards a new TV imo.
