How do I remove these apps from the recents screen?

Only way I know is with GoodLock. Once you have that get HomeUp from there and then you can customize task changer to not show recommended apps.

Are you uaing third party app launcher? Because there should be 3 dots on the upper right that brings you to settings and turn off 'Show recommended apps'

Click the 3 dots menu at the upper right corner and click settings, turn off suggested apps and u are good to go
