Have you kept up with recent Apple news, by chance? Apple's rigid adherence to update schedules has recently resulted in them pushing out unfinished (even problematic) AI features and buggy software. For better or worse, I imagine Samsung is trying to avoid the same fate by delaying releases.

While I'm not convinced that the sky is falling, and I don't think 99% of the market knows or cares about anything we're talking about, I do think Samsung is a bit too comfortable in their Android ecosystem dominance. They have really positioned themselves as the "Apple of Android," which is all well and good from a marketing standpoint, but I don't think they have the degree of overall market dominance or ecosystem lock-in required to make some of the choices they are making.

I hear you! Nothing beats genuine human creativity—except maybe a well-placed Arnold Schwarzenegger quote. But let’s be real: the S24 Ultra getting AI features isn’t exactly Skynet launching nukes. It’s more like your phone suggesting a better selfie angle or fixing that one typo before you accidentally text your boss something embarrassing. If you don’t want AI writing for you, that’s totally valid! But some of us wouldn’t mind a little digital assistant to make life easier—so long as it doesn’t start asking about Sarah Connor. *This comment was generated by ChatGPT — beep boop*

Because it is the most successful mobile operating system in much of the world and Samsung's largest competitor, and because Samsung's flagship devices are equal in price. If iOS offers a feature, no matter how small, it is in Samsung's best interest to offer an equal or better version of that feature. This is also better for users.

I am a fairly recent convert to the Samsung ecosystem, and coming from iPhone, I feel this. I initially switched because of the appeal of foldables. The Z flip 5 was genuinely my favorite form factor of any phone I have ever had. I wrote off a lot of the software inconsistencies because I figured the new, experimental form factor was to blame. I got sick of the crease, the plastic screen, the peeling of the screen protector, but most of all, the atrocious battery. So I traded it in for an S24+. I LOVE the hardware. The software experience is still pretty rough in certain ways. Don't get me wrong, One UI 7 is a huge leap forward in terms of usability, but it is still difficult not to look back over my shoulder and long for the walled garden.

Tweets are tweets and hype is hype. Take it with a grain of salt. But I would not be shocked if this is the case. If Samsung has decided to delay the stable and roll out additional betas for the purpose of packing in killer features, I'm here for it. This beta is incredibly stable as-is and daily drives just fine. We're gonna be ok if it's delayed.

As I see it, there are really two majpr issues at play here: 1) devs have a financial incentive to prioritize iOS. Apple devices make up the majority of US market share, and iOS apps are simply more lucrative... partly due to the larger user base, and partly due to limitations of the walled garden, such as the inability to sideload... meaning paid iOS apps aren't getting pirated to the degree they are on Android. 2) The lineup of devices is simply too broad for any dev to keep up with. Not even considering other OEMs, Samsung's lineup of devices is so broad that they (clearly) struggle to develop internally for everything that isn't from current year. I'd love to see some kind of program to give incentives to devs, but I don't know what that would look like, short of giving devs kickbacks for optimizing the S series.

If by "merge into Play Store," you mean "shut down Galaxy Store," sure, that would help with the issue of app redundancy... but good luck getting third party devs to optimize their Android apps, full stop. We're talking about an operating system in which devices have had hole-punch cameras and edge-to-edge displays for close to a decade, yet wide swaths of developers refuse to update their apps to even display properly on the devices they run on.

As far as I know, Samsung has neither officially confirmed nor denied this. If it is confirmed that they are withholding new features from one-year-old flagships, I would be interested to hear the rationale. I can't imagine that combining weather and calendar events is particularly resource-intensive.

Have you restarted your phone recently? The only bug I have experienced is a disappearing status bar on the home screen, which was fixed with a reboot. Beta 3 is still very smooth for me.

For real. People in these forums can't seem to grasp that the vast majority of users do not know or care what software version they are on, as long as they can send text messages and scroll social media.

Outside looking in... It seems to me that Samsung's strategy going forward is going to be marginal hardware upgrades, minimal aesthetic changes, and withholding new software features from the previous year's flagship. So Apple, basically. Galaxy AI was released in January with the S24 series, but didnt arrive on the S23 until March. I would anticipate a similar timeline here.

Money. The primary incentive to upgrade this go-around is software, not hardware. (Yes, I recognize that the hardware is marginally improved, but not particularly impactful for the average user... actually a downgrade in certain ways for Ultra Users) If they immediately give every device all software features, they eliminate the incentive for many tech-focused people to run out and buy the new one. There's a reason they're doing $900 trade-ins for S24U > S25U. Even when you do get the stable, don't expect to see all the new AI features right away.

Side note, gesture Animation tuning is probably my favorite feature of the new HomeUp. Currently using Elegant. Slightly more exaggerated than default, but still feels snappy. Dynamic feels insanely fast. Sweet is just too much.

The DIY home module is a beautiful disaster. We are about to see monstrosities of homescreens like never before. I love it as much as I hate it.

Since they are providing an option to revert to the legacy notification panel, it would make sense to also allow the legacy media player behavior. However, I do think adding music as a live activity would be a solution as well.

I don't think this would ever happen because the battery impact would be too great. The AOD "pauses" live wallpapers to conserve battery.

Failure to implement this would be nothing short of a massive oversight on Samsungs part. The current implementation of the media player is simply less functional than it was in 6.1.

I'm inclined to believe that any suggestions they would actually consider aren't going to appear in One UI 7. Some of them might appear as Good Lock plugins, if we get them at all. The time between the start of the beta and impending public release is a pretty small window.
