I have a 2021 Subaru outback and there is an android auto problem. I went to the dealer and they had somebody call me back the next day. He said it's probably the cable. I tried several different cables and none of them worked. I could connect to it wirelessly via Bluetooth for my telephone, text and music so I gave up. The only time that I really wanted to use It is when I take road trips and wanted to tune in to podcasts on Spotify.
Maps would be nice to use but the built in Tom Tom navigation was good enough. It used to work over a year ago with my old Samsung Note 10+ phone. Last summer, I upgraded my phone to the new Samsung Z Fold4 and it would not fit into the wireless charger built into the dashboard and I always had to plug it in to charge.

Connect a car

It would have been nice since I'm now doing 1,000 mile road trips almost every month while I'm building a new house up north.
To make a long story short, today I took my Z Fold4 in for service and I plugged in my old Samsung S8+ phone and the display pops up and ask if I want to connect Android auto. After installing the new Android auto on the phone, it worked flawlessly.
Same cable, different phone. When I got my Z Fold4 back a couple hours ago I plugged it in. And the same thing happened where there is no Android auto icon in the car display and does not work at all.
I just started researching it and I thought I would look here to see if anybody has a clue to what the problem is. I'll post on the Subaru community board as well. But I think it seems as if it's something in the phone

What worked for me was changing to a shorter cord and making sure the USB was at least a 3.0 or 3.1 version type.

It's only about an 8 inch cable and it worked with my S8+ and a Note 10+, but thanks! What's the version for? The cable?

The cord yes...The 3.0 to 3.1 is the data speed... it's needed for these phones to use AA...

An alternative could be to invest in carlinkit adapter and go wireless. That would at least give you what you need and no cord needed.

Hats off to @RyFree for his comment about getting a new cable. I ordered an "android auto" cable and it didn't solve the problem but it gave me the impetus to sit in the hot summer night until I fixed it. I deleted all the Bluetooth connections in my phone and car. Then I renamed the automobiles ID as well. I paired the phone with the "new" car, gave it all the permissions it asked for then using my new cable I fired it up and worked like a champ. The other cables also work now and problem is solved. Thanks for the tips amigo!20230708_225603_1000003778_1688882730.jpg
