This is for users that like Samsung Messages. If you're a Google Messages fan, this post isn't for you and keep on steppin'.

I prefer Samsung Messages over Google Messages, with all it's customizations. This push for Google Messages isn't about universal RCS, it's about Google Messages being the dominant Messaging app on Android/Samsung devices. If it was really about universal RCS, Google would just open up their API for RCS Chats by Google so other messaging apps could adopt its protocol on their platform. I would be more than happy if Samsung Messages could adopt Google's RCS Protocol so users can still use it if they prefer that messaging app over Google Messages. I thought having an Android device was about choices, not restricts like Apple. Messaging is so boring when everything is the same.

Plus, one company dominating is never a good idea. When there is an outage, it affects millions of people and businesses and becomes very disruptive. We've seen multiple examples of this.

Samsung I'm watching you to see if delete my post like last time.

RCS requires servers to run the messages through. In the US the carriers handled this previously. In an effort to expedite RCS adoption, Google has created servers and runs the universal profile for RCS. In theory, any company or app developer could implement RCS, but they would need either
1. Their own servers
2. Pay to use Googles
If they did this with the universal profile, then RCS would be available in more apps and be compatible. However, given the expense, 3rd party app developers are unlikely to have, or be willing to invest, the resources needed to do this.

RCS doesn't work for everyone in Samsung messages because of carrier restrictions in most cases, at least in the US

I agree. It's more than that though. For Google's AI engine to work it needs data, and for the AI to be conversationally correct it needs conversation context, which means it needs data from messaging apps. Until Google provides a means for completing opting out of all data collection, it should never be selected for such a large platform replacement. I want this app off of my new phone, but moreover I want Samsung to stop making these decisions for me.
