I have a frustrating issue on my high-end TV that I cannot figure out what might be the issue.  Before I decide on paying a technician on what might be wrong. I wanted to start here.

First, here is the issue: https://photos.app.goo.gl/KfSPApHyCd2TMJ2D8

It does not matter the video source. Issue exists with my Google TV Streamer set top box, and when watching Samsung Plus TV channels from the app built into the TV.  The issue does not occur when simply looking at the main menu of the TV.  If you notice in the video I shared, I have noticed something with this issue:

  • Flickering typically happens when the image is a darker setting.
  • Flickering can come and go with a simple switch of the camera angle in the video

I have performed the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Unplugged TV for a while
  • Cold booted the TV
  • Factory Reset the TV
  • Checked all of my cables.  Even swapped out HDMI despite seeing the issue on the preloaded app where HDMI cables would not play a factor.
  • Tried the video test under self-diagnostics. The 4K image is bright and vivid and does not result in flashing no matter how many times I play it.
  • Disconnected the Samsung One Connect box, cleaned it, checked the connections, and put it back together.

Despite the TV being less than two years old and at the time costing nearly $3K it lasted the shortest amount of time compared to all the other Samsung TVs that I bought.  Paying a diagnostic fee only to tell me that something expensive went bad is not something I want to deal with.

To wrap up, I have not changed any settings or hardware when all of a sudden the issue popped up yesterday.

Think it's a matter if what the repair costs vs a new tv if the repair is high and a new model or tv you select is cheaper might as well get new tv

Hmmmm.  Something happened all of a sudden absent any user action and you don't think something is defective enough to require a repair service?  Is the TV under warranty?

The TV is not under warranty. It is just under two years old. Samsung Care indicated that based on diagnostic fees the repair estimate can be anywhere from $1000-2000 dollars. I can't imaging sinking much money into this TV since today's mid-tier TVs have higher ratings than my two year old TV has.  Thought I would post here to see if anyone has any ideas before I likely look towards all my options including going with a different TV brand. All brands have their issues, but I think I am ready to spend a bit less on my next TV if I have to replace this one.

You might try contacting a local repair service to see if you can get an estimate. I would gather the expense is probably because rhe system/video board may have to be replaced. Which is badically a new TV anyway. You may just be better off buying one of those better, mid-tier models. Unless you know domeone who tinkers.
