Hi all,

I have a Galaxy Note S20 Ultra 5 G and I was having this problem. As many of you have mentioned this is not a wifi issue it's related to the phone.

I have different wifi's in my house and the problem has been reproduced in all the wifis.

Why the issue happens, at least in my case: the issue happens when you have a dual band working as one, steering option activate. I think that the phone is not able to well manage it.

I have bypassed this issue activating only the 5G wifi network and deactivating the 2,4 one. Doing by this way, the phone connects in 5G mode and it's working fine.

I think it's a samsung problem and I don't understand how a very expensive phone can not properly manage it.

Hope this helps!!!

like other reviews my notes 20 ultra will not automatically detect and switch to the best network node, even when the current connection becomes very poor. I've tweaked the network settings on the phone and the results are always the same. this year is not present on any of our other home networking devices and we have a powerful mesh networking kit with wired back haul that creates six available 5G WiFi bands in the home. the phone does not automatically switch to a wireless LTE or 5G signal either even when smart switching is enabled. I tried disabling Wi-Fi scan throttling and there was no improvement.
as others have stated the only way to get the phone to recognize and switch to the highest quality signal is to toggle the Wi-Fi setting off and on. Samsung please realize that this is more than a triviality but is an actual problem for users that are on the move. for instance I have to do video calling and conferencing and move between multiple locations during a call. in other networks I've noticed the same problem. this makes the phone virtually useless for mobile video conferencing in regions where Network conditions change frequently.

the way I solved my issue was by going in to developer options and turning off "wifi scan throttling," in the "networking," section. This has been the only thing that has worked on my phone.

January 19th I received the latest update from Verizon...  Out of curiousity I turned the Google Location Services back on - and I've not been disconnected yet.  Maybe the latest updates have a fix included?

Software Version:  N986USQS1CTLC

Android Patch Level:  January 1, 2021

I'll let you know if the issue returns.  BTW:  I did submit a ticket in the Samsung App on my phone asking the issue be fixed with links to this thread.  Hopefully they figured it out.

I don't kno why Samsung has marked this thread as "Solved". The solution that seems to have fixed this issue is to disable Google Location Accuracy. How is this a permanent solution? The fact that Samsung hasn't addressed this at this point is extremely dissapointing, especially seeing how large this thread has grown.

Having said that, our company will no longer be supporting Samsung products in the future. In a time where conference calls are vital, having issues with Wi-Fi dropping is completely unacceptable for a device at this price range.

Why in heck would I buy your Note 21U when you didn't get Note 20U right?!!! I loved Samsung and now I'm doubting any future purchases.

My wife's been complaining loudly about her Note 20 Ultra randomly dropping wifi since getting them back in October.  I haven't noticed it on my Note 20 Ultra but I don't use my phone nearly as much.  She relies heavily on notifications and when the wifi drops, the notifications stop.  Our phones are now updated with Android 11 and the problem persists.

Between this issue and the problems I'm having with out of focus and spotty focus macro shots with the camera, I'm starting to regret not going with iPhone 12 Pro Max instead.

I guess it's no reason to say: " I have the same issue".
In Google it says 'problem solved' ...as I see it here, it isn't. So what do we do?

This issue has become beyond annoying. I leave WIFI off most of the day but if I want to use wireless android auto WIFI must be on. I've tried switching to use phone Mac address, No luck! I've turned GPS off and it works the longest but I track my driving so God forbid I leave it on. Some apps you cannot force to a user cellular if WIFI is on. The apps you do force to use cellular experience latency issues. The premium paid for the note 20 ultra makes me regret trading in my S9 Plus as it had not one issue. Where's the fix Samsung???
