Connecting new Denon 8K receiver to Samsung 900R series 8K QLED

I have a 7.2.2. Home theater system with a Samsung 900R series 8K 82 inch TV, with Denon AVR-X6400H Receiver with a Fios cable box and Apple 4K TV for streaming. Everything works great. I decided to upgrade the Denon receiver with the new Denon AVR-X6700H 8K system. Setup was perfect, after about and hour of down time, then restart. The new Denon would not handshake to the Samsung TV. All HDMI cables are new Belkin Ultra High speed rated at 48 gs. Called Denon and Samsung and they have no fix for the problem. A one year old TV wouldn't connect to a new receiver? Would love to get some feed back on what to do.

How is everything connected? Have you tried toggling the Anynet+ on the television? Have you checked the receiver for any ARC settings?

Fios cable box, Apple 4K TV, and Oppo BluRay are connected the the input HDMI connections on the Denon receiver. The Samsung 8K  tv is connected to the main output on the receiver with a cable to input port 4 which is the the 8K connection. All cables are new Belkin Ultra High Speed HDMI cables rated at 48 gs. When first setup it worked perfectly, but when it is off for an hour or more there is a problem. There is a blue screen on the TV indicating to turn power on to the input device. If I cycle the TV on and off several times it will connect and everyyjing works great and until the next of cycle. I have the inputs connected to the receiver and not the TV, because the TV does not support all the new sound formats, such as 7.2.2 Dolby Digital Surround, DTS PRO, IMAX, and 7.2.2 Atmos. This is part of a large home theater setup. And running inputs to the TV and sound back to the receiver through ARC is not a good arrangement. Currently the older Denon receiver is working fine with TV connected as I have explained. But this is a 8K TV and purchased to work with 8K equipment. When I purchased this TV from Best Buy I explained the manner in which the TV would be used, and the salesman said no problem. I have been going back and forth with Samsung and Denon. And the answer is there is a EDID HDMI handshake issue with the TV. In fact if you check back to your 2018 FAQ there was a similar problem with a Samsung TV and Denon Receiver. Which was finally corrected by Samsung through a firmware upgrade. Both Denon and Marantz are releasing 8K AV Receivers and I should be able to re-purchase either one of these devices to work with my 8K home Theater system. Just 2 days ago I updated the firmware of my TV via USB thumb drive, since my TV was not picking up the new firmware. The software was installed without problem and was upgraded to 1361.0. I have continued to ask Samsung support tech's the magic question is this the fix that will allow me to purchase a new 8K receiver and connect it as I described, letting the av receiver handle all the devices and speakers and outputting to the TV to port 4 (8K port on the tv). This should not be a difficult problem since a TV this large and expensive is used in home theaters very offensive and not using ARC should not matter. I await your comment.

I have had the same issue. I spent a ton of money on all of this and if Samsung isn't going to help fix this, I will not buy anymore Samsung products

The saleperson told me that 900R is 8K TV that can watch 8K video, however, I realized after spending weeks to play with the TV and tech person of Samsung,  900R is just a TV that accept 4K input and upscale to 8K. The TV even can't watch the 8K content of youtube.

I just installed the 8K Denon AVR today and spent the entire day trying to get it to play well with the Q900R. (So far, no joy)

There appears to be no clear connections  tutorials for either the AVR, o, r the Q900R.

I was told by a Samsong Tech that ALL of the HDMI inputs on the Q900R will accept 8K input, but I'm finding that not to be the case. (Thanks for the heads up on port 4; I'll try that tomorrow)   As far as feeding the AVR-X6700H input, I have a Oppo 4K BluRay hooked up to it and so far they only play well if I don't try to pass 4K from the AVR to the TV. 

The only way to get Atmos to function is to use a optical cable from the One Connect to the AVR.  (which means the expensive HDMI cable is useless)

A good tutorial from either of these companies would certainly be useful

SUCCESS!!!

I'm pleased to reported that I finally managed to get my Denon AVR-X6700H 8K receiver to output 8K to my Samsung Q900r  8K TV. 

Here's how I did it: I first did a 12 min. firmware update on the AVR. Then,  I used an optical cord between the AVR and the One Connect box. After switching the TV audio to output to the optical I connected the 8K HDMI to port 4 on the One Connect box and the 8K output port of the AVR.

I then unpluged the AVR and turned off the TV for a few minutes. When I plugged it back in and turned the set on, the TV caught the signal and I was able access the 8K resolution setting using (of course) the setting switch of the AVR's remote.

I hope this helps anyone with the same tech setup issues.

Hey i have same tv the q900r am receiving my denon 8k receiver next week wanted to know if your denon 8k receiver and samsung 8k q990r is still working fine together 

did you figure out what really was the problem is it that only optical cables makes them work together or any other issues

My setup is still working well, but I  have had to re-adjust my expectations:  The tv will only accept the AVR's 8K  signal from it's hdmi port 4, which means the tv, it's apps  (YOUTUBE NETFLIX PRIME VIDEO- ect.) and anything plugged directly into the tv, which the AVR will be Playing the sound from WON'T  be outputting an ATMOS signal.  The tv only outputs ATMOS when you use it's Port 3 and enable ARC.  Port 3 doesn't accept an 8K signal.

I don't have a work-around for the tv's ATMOS output problem, but the good news is  that anything plugged into the AVR  ( Bluray Games-Media ) will have it's  sound AND image quality greatly  improved.  (at least, that's been my experience.)

...And Yeah, An optical cable is a MUST to make the whole rig work
