Messages App how to get Badges on/off?

My wife and I both have a Samsung Galaxy A14, we both use the same version of messages app. She has an option to turn badges on or off and I don't even have the badges option. As far as I can tell there are no current updates. How do I turn badges on to make it obvious I have new messages when there is no option? And why?

@TazMan63 Try this:

1. Open phone settings
2. Click on Notifications
3. Click on Advanced settings
4. Use the option App icon badges to turn the badge on or off.
