I've read all the posts about turning off the camera timer.

I've read all the posts about turning off the camera timer.
Please don't give me the usual advice about turning off the camera timer.
Please don't tell me to touch the third icon from the left and set it to no countdown. I've done this. Many times.
Yes, I have the latest software update(s).
Sometimes when I take a picture it's instantaneous. Sometimes when I take a picture the timer kicks in even if I'm in the exact same position and under the exact same lighting conditions.
Why? And how can I fix it?

My camera does exactly what it wants to do and I need to know how to make it do what I want it to do.

Can anyone suggest a novel new approach? You can get mad at me for my repetition if you want to. I've been on enough forums/fora to know that people don't read before they respond. I'm trying to get someone to actually think and respond appropriately. For those of you who may do this, thank you.

How about this? Long press on your camera icon until it brings up the sub menu. In the upper right hand corner tap on the letter i with the circle around it. That will bring up the app specifications. Go down and tap on storage, then clear cache and clear data. Hope that works for you.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful suggestion. I really appreciate it. Unfortunately, it didn't solve the problem šŸ˜•

Ok so I had the same problem and it drove me crazy trying to figure out what happened. If your phone says hold phone still and makes you wait 5 seconds before it takes the picture this might help you. I apparently had the night mode on. Make sure the moon shaped icon in the bottom right corner of the camera is white and not yellow. When it's white night mode is off and it should take pictures like normal.  If night mode is on it will do the 5 second countdown.

Thank you for trying to help. I don't have a moon shaped icon anywhere on screen.

I was using the selfie mode to take photos of the outside of my ankle to monitor the healing progress following surgery.to repair a broken ankle. However, I discovered that if I move the camera just 2 or 3 inches farther from the ankle the countdown timer never kicks in.

For me, i had the same problem but found out that for my galaxy s20, even though the timer was off, i also had to turn off the 'screen optimizer" and the timer went away. Hope this helps.
