Google Messaging app issues

I'm really bothered that Samsung is doing away with their messaging app and going to Google. I stay away from all things Google and am wondering what app I will be using. Any idea why this is happening?

These aren't limitations, and there are no interoperability issues when using text messaging. Sms as a universal standard works across all devices down to a 30 years old Nokia brick.
If anyone is concerned about color of the bubbles, that's certainly their choice, and they are totally free to use GM, or switch to iPhone. They are also free to use TikTok, eat Tide pods, or believe what they read on Facebook. Maybe they are also not old enough to use a smartphone.

Surely you know that the actual color of a bubble is not the issue? It's what the colors represent.

On iOS, a blue bubble indicates iMessage, which is a proprietary IM service developed specifically to achieve features that SMS/MMS lack, including security features like end to end encryption.

Why would you need compression in a 160 character message? That's what the first S in SMS stands for, short.
And no, I don't care (or want to know) what bubble colors represent. Text messaging is for OTPs and "Busy, will call you later" quick replies that need to go back to the phone number that called you. None of them need bubbles, typing indicators, or reactions. There are dozens of chat apps (including multiple duplicate ones from Google, although those tend to end up in the Google Graveyard because Google just can't create a social media info sucker that anyone would care for) for sharing photos. Not even counting all the other ways to share them.

Media compression refers specifically to the Multimedia Messaging Service protocol, not SMS.

I would still love to receive a well reasoned explanation of your position.

Fine. What is your complaint about media compression in something that is specifically for sending short notifications?
I can well see why Google wants me to send my messages through their system - - they must really like all the class actions they get slapped with (and they aren't extracting enough info from my Gmail account). What I don't see is why I should care about their business needs, about RCS, or what color is the bubble if I somehow happen to text an iPhone user. Or why do I have to migrate to a different texting app even though the current one would still be fully functional as an SMS client if it didn't have a kill switch.

It's quite simple: media compression in MMS substantially reduces image and video quality, often to the point where videos cannot even be properly displayed. That's the entire issue, and I think you understand that, even if you don't want to admit it.

The assertion that messaging is solely for sharing short bursts of information may have been true in 2004, but that is no longer the case for the vast majority of users who just want their devices to work the way they want to use them. I think you understand that as well.

If Google data tracking is really a major concern, Android devices (Samsung in particular) are generally not going to be the best choice. An iPhone or a de-Googled device may be a better fit for you.

I want a Windows Mobile device but unfortunately this isn't happening.

You do not seem to understand is that a lot of people, me included, could not care less for media compression in MMS, bubbles, or whatever other fluff RCS offers. I could share images in whatever quality I wanted, with whoever I wanted, with first WinMo phone (incidentally, last interesting phone Samsung made) much easier than anything GM could ever accomplish.

You could use GM for years, just as you can watch TikTok or eat Twinkies. It does not mean that everyone else should have to eat and watch chemical waste too.

Well, you got me there. I will gladly concede that I don't understand much of what you've shared here.

I genuinely hope you find a device and apps that meet your wants/needs.

That will actually be quite difficult, as we don't get any good Android phones here. And Samsung Messaging did have one feature (categories) that no other text client seems to have.
It is quite amazing (or amusing) though that just because you do not care about privacy but do care about what your iPhone toting friends would think about the color,of your bubble, you believe that everyone else should be happy about having to drop what works well for them in exchange for... Oh, right, nothing. There are no benefits in GM to me or many other people. And to add insult to injury, if there were no kill switch in Samsung Messaging, it would keep working for years as a texting app.

You don't seem to realize that iPhone users still see messages from Android phones as green.
