I have done a factory reset on my old phone to try and recover google messages.
I have just the one Sim. So I have factory reset the spare phone and started the recovery process. After the 'Lets Go' prompt, I accept the EULA then select wireless to connect. I get checking for 'updates' and 'account added'. Next say 'getting account info' then says "The Google Assistant isn't available for this account". I'm offered 'switch accounts' and choose my main Gmail account and I continue to go round in circles.
Any thoughts has to how to get to just restore my data from Google ?
Recently a subset of the messages on my phone disappeared, however that doesn't delete the backup on the Google cloud.
The only way to access that backup is to completely start again with a factory reset, then the messaging app will download the message backup in the cloud. I can then recover the missing texts.
