Voice typing is inconvenient because the keyboard toolbar does not include a microphone button. Many users disable the microphone button below the keyboard since it wastes vertical screen space. When that button is disabled, there is no quick way to start voice input from the keyboard itself.
A toolbar microphone button would solve this by allowing voice typing without enabling the bottom microphone button.

There is also an option to start voice typing by holding the spacebar, but this feature only works if the bottom microphone button is shown. IRONIC! That dependency makes the feature unusable for people who disable the bottom button to save space.

If a microphone button on the toolbar is that important to you, might I suggest using GBoard as your default keyboard.

GBoard sucks. I used Swype, then it was bought by a (military?) company and the project was closed. Then i used Swift, it was worse. Then i started using Samsung phones and i think it is better to use ecosystem.

GBoard has a good swipe recognition, but it has no change language on spacebar. No quick actions like Swype and Samsung. And it's totally garbage as look.

In Samsung keyboard you can setup fast actions on any button like dot+up/down/left/right. It's totally convenient for fast swiping (but in Swype i could use fast shortcuts as on laptop: a letter to spacebar = shortcut. V to space = past, c to space = copy, x to space = cut, etc). For instance i use dot + down for "?" and dot + left for comma.

Actually Swype was bought by Microsoft!

As to the rest, the microphone will not be moved, it is where it is.

Microsoft bought the company who bought Swype 7 years after. Anyway it hasn't helped them to improve SwiftKey. MS does the same Google does: kill opponents instead of use their projects.

I was annoyed when they moved this option from toolbar. I believe my current setup has voice type in bottom left, being overrode by this option in the first screenshot. the microphone button is only visible AFTER I long press the space bar. 1773430840081.jpg1773430840099.jpg1773430840115.jpg
