Why cant the S26 ultra just auto update automatically why do I get this message to wait for update with the phone and watch?

You have the option to install the update immediately when you get the notification, schedule it for a time that is convenient for you to deal with any issues or just let it install automatically at the stated date and time. So, what's your issue? Just hit install now and there's no waiting. Ignore it and it will install automatically, as you want it to.

Some updates do install automatically, those are usually small patches and corrections.  Major UI/security/OS updates require intervention.

The issue is dont know why we have this scheduled time now. Before when you were connected to any WiFi it would download update and it would automatically install the update.

You always had the same options, you probably never actually noticed it before, as the splash screen usually stays hidden until you tap the update notification.  The updates will download automatically, but not install automatically unless you ignore the notification to install or schedule (for the phone).  Then it will install at the date and time in the notification, which, IMO, is always the least convenient time to install it, as I prefer to have control over when I have time to deal with any issues or learning curve that may arise.

@DogGoneIt1989 How is that a great explanation when it has nothing to do with the OP's post? The OP only wanted to know why it just could not update as they described, not how the updates work overall on a system level operation. Even then the explanation is incorrect on a few points.

@AAbbott's reply was a good one to address the issue and described why it would not auto-update.

The watches don't have A/B partitions.  The OP posted in the S26 forum, but the  update they are showing is clearly for the watch.
