Hey everyone!

With new updates come exciting features, operating system enhancements, and sometimes a few unexpected quirks, especially when third-party apps are in the mix. This guide is here to get you back to enjoying your Samsung Galaxy device by walking you through some of the best practices and troubleshooting to help you adjust smoothly to any of the latest software updates.

Please note: Some options listed may not be available depending on the OS/Software & Device.

Sounds simple, right? Sometimes the most simplest of things, such as restarting your Samsung device, can quickly resolve many issues or stability concerns. Review the following article to discover different ways to restart your Samsung Galaxy Phone or Tablet: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS10001374/

cache.png

This one is a must! During an update, you’ll have many temporary files stored to complete the updating process. It’s important to clear these temporary files after an update by wiping the cache partition. Find the steps to clear your system cache here: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Galaxy-S23/Clear-System-Cache/m-p/2631453#M66543

Make sure to optimize your Samsung Galaxy Phone after an update to ensure that you're phone is working to its optimal potential. Here’s a helpful guide on how to go about doing that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPo4h2og_bE

safe (2).png

If you notice strange behavior with your device or major battery drainage, this could all be caused by a third-party application. The app may be reacting negatively to the most recent update. Booting your device in safe mode will allow you to see if the symptoms persist without the third-party applications being involved. Test it out to see if you notice the symptoms go away in safe mode. If they do clear up, slowly one by one, removing installed applications starting with the latest one added, until the symptoms clear up. Here you can find the steps on how to put your device in Safe Mode:  https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS10003495/

network (1).png

Resetting your network settings may help if you experience trouble with your connection (Data/Wi-Fi). Check out this video for an easy step-by-step guide to walk you through this process: https://youtu.be/0HFfbhzKQv0?si=4DOv7hiWxZvFEZEG

Security (1).png

With the update of your software, some settings can change back to default settings or could be changed altogether. Check and verify your Security & Connection settings to ensure no changes were made amid the update. Here’s a guide to help with that: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS10002544/

If you have additional questions, you can learn more about the different connection options for your Galaxy phone or tablet here: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00089062/

app (1).png

There are various steps to take for unusual app behavior.

First, make sure that all applications are up to date on your device before updating your software. Here's a guide on how to update applications on your Samsung Galaxy Phone or Tablet: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00080581/

Second, many symptoms can be resolved by simply reinstalling the application that's giving you trouble. Here's a guide on how to manage your applications on your device: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00078952/

Still having trouble? Here’s some additional troubleshooting you can do to tackle any app-related situations:  https://www.samsung.com/us/support/troubleshoot/TSG10000736/

(Note: This troubleshooting article has multiple steps; select the “no” option at the bottom to go to the next set of steps)

Lastly, it’s important to note that Samsung is unable to guarantee the compatibility of third-party applications. It is the responsibility of the app developer (company or party that creates the app) to develop their application in a manner that works properly within the parameters of the software, platforms, and devices on which they host their application. After updates, sometimes the app developers may need to tweak some settings or code with their application for it to work properly again. If you experience trouble with a specific application and the steps above are not helping, you may need to report this to the app developers. You can usually find contact information within the Google Play Store under the app's detailed information. Alternatively, you're welcome to submit an error report as well. We will go over these steps in section 10.

battery (1).png

If you notice your battery draining a little faster than usual after an update, this is completely normal and should resolve itself within 7-14 days. This happens because your phone needs time to relearn your usage patterns and automatically adjust how it manages battery use. This adaptive battery process helps you in the long term to ensure you receive optimal battery life based on how you use your device. After an update, these settings are reset, so your phone will temporarily need time to readapt again. If you need additional assistance after the time frame, check out the following link: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/troubleshoot/TSG10001538/

resetf (1) (1).png

If you're unable to resolve your symptoms utilizing any of the steps above, a factory data reset on your device may be the last resort to get you back on track. Doing a reset takes the device down to a default or base level. Before any resets,  please ensure to back up your device, and try utilizing the phone without pulling the backup data back to the device, just to test if the symptoms persist. Then, slowly reintroduce files and other applications in increments back to your device. You can find the steps for a factory data reset  listed in the following link here: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS10002030/

Error (1).png

If you’d like to submit feedback or report software symptoms that you are having, we highly encourage users to submit feedback via an Error report. It’s important to note that via updates, some features may be altered, naming changed, or removed altogether. By getting this information over to our engineers, this helps Samsung formulate future updates to keep things running smoothly. We have a thread that you can find here that gives you all the details on how to accomplish this. https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Tips-Tricks/How-to-Send-Feedback/ba-p/3001692

time.png

We at Samsung definitely understand your excitement, and we want everyone to enjoy our latest and greatest software updates. It’s important to note that normally, Unlocked Devices will receive software updates first, prior to any carrier-locked devices. (Unlocked devices are normally purchased from Samsung.com directly and not through a carrier such as AT&T, Verizon, etc.) Due to Carrier software having to be optimized after certain software updates, specific consumers may experience some delays in receiving updates, while others will receive them much faster. Software is normally released in batches, and is scheduled out to users by the Carriers themselves. It’s important to consult with your carrier on a specific timeframe, as our Community Members, Moderators, or Samsung Employees will not be able to provide you with specific dates or timelines. For a breakdown on more information about Where’s my update please visit our existing thread here: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Tips-Tricks/quot-Where-is-the-next-update-for-my-Samsung-device-...

We hope that utilizing this guide will help you understand and clear up the majority of any unusual behavior. Getting you back to enjoying your Samsung device. Thank you so much for being a part of our Samsung Family, and if you have questions or feel confused after an update, don’t fret. The Samsung Members Community has some of the greatest peer-to-peer interactions that can help answer the majority of your concerns and get you back on track.

Step number one is to restart it... But it restarts after the update so do I need to restart it again after the restart?
Step two -when I do that it does not access any menu, I don't have whatever that menu is so there's no way to clear whatever files y'all are talking about.
I've only read the first two steps and so far this has been completely useless information.
5-reset network settings for Wi-Fi, yeah that hasn't worked right in a year but Samsung doesn't care

This post is helpful, but each of these suggestions can be complex and time consuming. For instance, wiping the cache partition will reset the phone settings that takes most people quite a while to customize to their liking. The Samsung Backup may restore some settings, but not others, so you end up having to go through all settings again to customize them and also set any new options that have appeared with the update. Resetting to factory defaults is an even more time consuming "solution". What ever happened to the company ensuring that their stuff just mostly works?

I really wish that these steps weren't so time consuming. You have to learn about the step, then implement it, and then deal with the consequences of implementing it. The Settings have become a lot more numerous and complex as well, with each setting having subsettings and even those may have subsettings. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm busy surviving, so it's hard to find the time to deal with the problems from updates, which means I'm living with these problems, all of which interfere with my ability to work or / enjoy my phone on a daily basis.

There have been so many UI problems on my S25 Ultra from day one, that I wish I had returned it. My Note 9, which was stolen, didn't have any of these problems. The UI updates are coming fast and maybe the app makers don't have time to fix problems that arise from the updates, and especially newer phones where both the OS and One UI are updating a lot.

On a side note, why do I only get a tiny amount of viewable area for the post I'm typing on this mobile app? It's really difficult to see my post so that I can revise it to ensure it's readability from this tiny area. Why not give us a much larger area in which to write our message or allow us to adjust the size of the area? I find this to be extremely annoying.

Due to what are most certainly UI issues, on FB I get one line, and it's often stuck between two lines and I can't scroll or use the cursor to go up or down. This is one of the many UI problems on my phone. Another example is that I'll tap the area to begin typing a comment, and it will pop up and cover the whole screen, even though there's still only one line viewable. There are just so many problems!

Wiping the Android "cache partition" is not the same as clearing each individual app's cache. I have found that clearing the app's cache fixes some app-related problems. I wish there was an app that would clear all or selected apps' caches with just one click.

For the instructions on how to clear the cache, you say to turn it off and then follow all those steps... So you do all of that while the phone is off? Sounds like a stupid question but I don't have that menu option anyway I've tried

What's the point of submitting an error report? Is that supposed to resolve issues? So far none of the reports I've submitted have given me a resolution

Nothing's been done to fix my phone no matter how many times I ask. I'm not even going to get a new phone I'm just going to throw this one in the trash and deal without one because I'm tired of the bs. (S24). As far as I can tell, they don't even respond to me anymore with the reports I submit.

My phone locked me out. Call it planned obsolescence or abject stupidity. Either way they'll be happy to sell you the S26 Ultra. One hand doesn't know what the other is doing and they live to make you Stay on hold and hang up on you the first and foremost bit of information that they gave me was no no problem with software update your phone maybe have water damage out of warranty goodbye I should have bought an apple Google or Motorola instead of the highly problematic overly expensive piece of trash Samsung this isn't the first time they've done that to me but they did deny fixing it under the VIP rewards special program didn't make me feel real special
