Battery consumption is complexly influenced by various factors, such as updates to installed apps, changes in the device’s usage environment, or usage patterns. After a major software update, it’s normal to notice temporary changes in battery life. Here are a few steps you can try while your device adjusts and optimizes in the background.
Let Adaptive Battery Relearn Your Usage
After a major update, the first thing you need to insure is that the Adaptive battery option is turned on and operating. If it is on, Excellent!
How to turn on Adaptive Battery:
Slide Down from the right corner and select Settings.
Select Battery > Select Background usage Limits > Select the Three Dots > Adaptive Battery
Toggle on Adaptive Battery
Allow Time
Your device will need some time to reoptimize again. Allow 2 full weeks for the adaptive battery to relearn your usage pattern. Battery usage may appear higher during this adjustment phase.
Check Your Performance Profile
If you’ve tried the above, and look for more immediate options to save battery life, you could also try checking your performance profile. Adjusting your performance mode can help reduce strain.
Open Settings > Go to Device Care
Tap Battery > Tap Performance profile > Select Light
Selecting this performance profile keeps the device performance smooth for everyday use, help reduce overheating, and should extend the battery life.
Optimizing Your Device
Many times, Battery drainage can occur due to background applications. Auto Optimization helps keep apps from running unnecessarily in the background.
Open Settings >Tap Device Care>Auto Optimization
Tap Auto Restart > Set to Auto restart your device when need or on a specific schedule.
In turning on auto restart this will restart your phone from time to time helping keep your device optimized and running in the best condition.
Turn On Battery Protection
To save battery power, and help the device manage charging behavior more intelligently. Turn on Battery Protection.
Steps:
Go to Settings > Battery
Tap Battery protection > Toggle On > Select Adaptative
@JDFor Are you using the device as it's being charged? If so, than this would be normal behavior. It's going to charger slower, and dependent on the percentage you have left it will run out.
If you're not using it, try putting your device in Safe Mode: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS10003495/ And see if you notice a difference, if you do then more than likely it' s a third party application running in the background that's the cause.
My husband and I are have the same problem as JDFOR... plus, all of s sudden our chargers don't work anymore for the 2nd time in less than a month! What little we can charge takes 15hrs just to get ALMOST to 100% and that's with our phones OFF! No, obviously not using it while charging. Also, we have unlocked phones, but haven't gotten our updates yet for Jan... what exactly is going on?
If the adaptive battery app doesn't stop shutting off my charger I will have shut of the app. I go on the X spaces a lot and when going to speaker in a space it shuts off recharging completely and that 46 watt fast charger becomes worthless. It needs to just slow down the charging to prevent overheating that happens on X anyway in speaking mode. Heavy data user!
@CamoCowgirl If you've tried the steps I provided for @JDFor and still having trouble, I would recommend your device be evaluated by a Samsung Technician or you can take it to a local Samsung Experience shop, you could potentially need a reflash of the recent software, but it would be best to be diagnosed hands on.
@R-U-X When you're actively using the device for high-data activities like live audio and speaker mode, the phone prioritizes system performance and temperature management. In those situations, charging can slow down or temporarily pause to prevent overheating. This is expected behavior, and charging typically resumes once the device cools or usage is reduced. We recommend pausing those activities briefly if you're trying to charge more quickly.
The biggest problem/nuisance is trying to force everyone into google assistant apps. Instead of google assistant being integrated, it's a completely seperate app that constantly drains battery. I use to have to uninstall the entire app constantly but now there's no option to and the only way to keep it from draining battery is by removing all of it's permissions, and then google messages becomes useless because bixby is useless outside of galaxy featured apps. You aren't even allowed to put it in sleeping apps or deep sleep. Battery drain has become a problem since Samsung started trying to copy apple instead of being themselves, and specifically due to the google assistant apps.
This happens every major update. The OS re-indexes apps, relearns usage patterns, and background optimization kicks into high gear for a few days. Most people panic instead of letting the adaptive battery settle. Give it a week, then check app usage—that’s where the real drains usually show up.
Too bad the galaxy ring doesn't follow any of this. It doesn't have time to relearn 💩 because it's dead by the time it realizes. FIX MY GALAXY RING SAMSUNG!!! What a joke it lasted exactly 2 months outside of warranty.
Yeah, I noticed my battery draining quicker as well. I thought it was something running in background. Thanks for addressing this. You got this Samsung. I pray over your next tech update and that it will run properly and smoothly. Keep improving and have a blessed day, thank you Samsung for your good working A54 phone and my old Galaxy(2019)Tab8 tablet thus far. 🙏
Don't use it Constantly get you a back up battery 10,000 or more and keep it on it if you want battery life more get a 3ft fast charging cord usb to type c.
This is not for Galaxy watches, this is info for Samsung phones. I was having trouble with my Samsung Galaxy watch 6 classic not charging at all after the update.
Thank you for this! I have noticed a significant amount of battery drainage on my nearly 4-year-old phone which used to get about 2 days of battery life from a single charge.
Update: I don't see anything called performance profile under device care and I have tried wiping the cashe partition (following the steps) but somehow can't get into recovery mode?
I really haven't seen any major differences with battery or charging on my Galaxy Z fold 7. Obviously the battery does drain a little faster, which is normal when you have it open on the full screen and your take advantage of what is given to you on the inside, but for me to say that I charged it to 100% and it took more than the ridiculous hour and 40 something minutes due to Samsung offering short standard charging speeds in the century. We're in still my battery charges efficiently and it's working fine after the latest updates and hopefully everything gets fixed for those who are having trouble with their charging.
I have the 23 fe and I thought it seemed like my charge was going down faster than usual. Made the recommended changes, learned a few new things , which I appreciate. Only had 1 item that I had to change. I couldn't be happier than I am with my 23 fe . Thank you for the intel. 👏👏
I run my S24 Plus on maximum battery protection. Should I switch to this adaptive instead? My problem is mainly overheating. I do make a lot of videos and edit them. I bought an external cooler to keep the template of my phone down.
