Sleep Tracking with Galaxy Watch

SamsungMembersAdmin_0-1768862342356.jpeg

The Samsung Health app on your Wear OS Galaxy watch can track your sleep. If it's displaying an error or not accurately portraying the details, there’s multiple steps you can try to get your watch back to tracking again. First Thing is first, please review the following video to ensure that you’ve set up sleep tracking properly on your watch.

Using Samsung Health Sleep Monitoring

For more information, please check out the following link: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS10003657/

Fully Charge the Galaxy Watch prior to sleeping

Make sure that your Galaxy watch is completely charged prior to sleeping, and that you’re using the OEM charger that came with the device. This ensure that the battery doesn’t give out in the middle of the night and will help produce more accurate tracking.

Clean your Wrist & Sensor

It's important to keep it clean & Dry to help it run efficiently. It's especially important to clean your watch after playing sports or exercising, as sweat and other residue can build up. Wash your wrist with basic hand soap/ antibacterial soap and water and dry well. Ensuring the device completely dry and your wrist dry will prevent skin irritation or watch rashes from occurring. Steps for cleaning can be found below:

Cleaning the body of the watch:

Wipe clean the watch and charger with soft, clean cloth, and dry it thoroughly. Clean the battery terminals with a cotton ball or a soft, clean cloth. Do not use any chemicals or detergents. Prevent the watch from being exposed to dust, sweat, ink, oil, and chemical products such as cosmetics, antibacterial spray, hand cleaner, detergent, and insecticides. If your watch is exposed to any of these substances, use a soft, lint-free cloth to clean it

Cleaning the watch strap:

You should clean your watch strap if it comes into contact with any of the following: oil, sun lotion, body sweat, body lotion, any foreign material or debris, and hand sanitizer.

Rubber straps: wipe clean with a slightly damp, soft, clean cloth. Dry the strap thoroughly with a clean cloth

Leather straps: wipe clean with a soft, lint-free cloth. If necessary, you can slightly dampen the cloth with clean, fresh water. Leave the strap to dry in a well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight

Under no circumstances should your watch strap be exposed to any of the following: high pressure water, cleaning materials, ultrasonic waves, soaps, abrasive materials, ionized water, ultrasonic waves, direct sunlight for long periods, and hot or humid environment for long periods of time.

Wearing the Watch Correctly

SamsungMembersAdmin_3-1768862342438.png

When you want to wear your Samsung smart watch, there's a proper way to put it on, so it will be nice and snug with no discomfort. First, center the watch on top of your wrist and slide the end of the strap or band through the loop. Then, fit the strap or band to your wrist and firmly insert the pin into the adjustment hole. Ensure the pin is fully inserted into the hole. But make sure not to overtighten the strap or band.

Take necessary precautions if your skin is hypersensitive or if you have an allergy to any materials found in the Galaxy smart watch.

Please also be aware of the following:

  • Do not bend the strap or band excessively. Doing so may damage your watch.
  • Do not brace your watch against your body or a table.

Try Switching Wrists

Because of the way that we move and roll in our sleeps, sometimes it could be best to place your watch on the opposite wrist you normally would, depending on your movements. Some customers have reported they got much better tracking by trying this simple hack.

Check for Updates

SamsungMembersAdmin_5-1768862342463.png

It’s always good to make sure not only your watch is up to date but the Samsung Health Application and your mobile device.

Clear Cache on Samsung Health

SamsungMembersAdmin_6-1768862342465.png

Clearing the app cache is kind of like a cleanse for your apps. It will get rid of residual files that could be slowing down the app, and by clearing Cache on the Samsung Health app can help with sleep tracking overall.

First Open Settings, and then swipe to and tap Apps. Select or search for the Samsung Health app. Tap Storage, and then tap Clear cache.

Shortcut: Long tap & hold on the Samsung Health app > Info > Scroll to Storage > Clear Cache

*Make sure to restart your watch and phone after performing these steps.

Power Saving Mode

SamsungMembersAdmin_7-1768862342478.png

If it's displaying an error or not accurately portraying the details, you may be able to fix it by enabling and disabling power saving mode. Navigate to Settings > Tap Battery > Tap the switch to turn on Power savings mode. (If already off, please toggle ON then toggle it back to off)

*Restart your device after completely these steps.

None of these Steps are Helping

If none of the steps are helping, we recommend submitting an error report to our Engineers. You can also feel free to post about this within our Get Help section of the community or reach out privately to a moderator directly to discuss other options.

Also be sure to wear it correctly on your wrist. It should sit at least 2 fingers above the bumpy part ( end of the distal radius bone) on the pinky side of your wrist! The picture I am providing is where it should be worn to insure all sensors make direct contact with your skins. The band should be not too tight, tight enough that the watch doesn't move while you sleep!STMeHQQ55C.jpg

Can Samsung please add support as a consideration for those of us that work during night hours and sleep during the day? While I get that we that fall into this category still can obtain sleep graphs and results, I as many am sharing the frustration of being a bit limited in regards to sleep coaching function which doesn't even allow us to use as it insists we adjust our sleep target to night hours yet can't sleep then due to our work schedule!

Man I love these watches they're pretty cool but I got mine from T-Mobile and even though I bought it as a unlocked device when I bought it they didn't care about how I customized it and they send me any straps they could find so when I sent the straps back to them of course I kept the watch part of it they completely ignored me and didn't send me a new set of straps so now I'm walking around with a Samsung Galaxy watch ultra 7 and no straps to wear it eff T-Mobile

Yeah, I tried submitting feedback through the app and all I got was a generic response from a bot.   Just as useless as the new tile design.

The sleep monitoring on the watch 8 is a disgrace to samsung. I applied all the reccomendatios, nothing changed. The measurements of sleep stages is completely off triggering the wrong sleep score. Several nights I wore a different watch brand and the watch 8 for comparison. The watch 8 is way off and inaccurate. A software update to fix the bugs would be appreciated!

I've had moments where the sleeping tracking is way off or something wrong is going on. I always wear my watching perfectly snug and never too tight. I always wipe down the sensors and my arms and wrist are always clean. Still sometimes there will be gaps shown in my sleep cycle where there's literally no data at all during about a 3rd or half way in the sleep cycle. Also sometimes it will pick up the start of the my sleep late. Let's say I get into bed at 10pm, fall asleep around 10:30 ish or 11pm, when I wake up and check the sleep score, the details on the Health app, my sleep range would show hours later as the start of when I went to sleep like it started to actually track at like 1:30am or something. Very weird.

Thank you everyone for the additional details. At this time, if you've already completed the steps outlined in the troubleshooting guide above, and are still experiencing unexpected behavior, we recommend submitting an error report. While we're not able to provide an immediate resolution, submitting a report allows our development team to review the data and determine if any software-related issues need to be addressed in future updates.

You also have the option to visit a local Service Center or Samsung Experience Store, where a technician can evaluate the device in person and provide hands-on assistance if needed.

It's a curiosity still, not a serious sleep-health assessment tool.
Occasional use has yielded irregular, contradictory data so wondering what the best way is to yield consistent results as an inconsistent, irregular sleeper?
