Note20I received my new AT&T Branded Note 20 a few days ago (I'm comming from a Note 3), and this phone doesn't have a "Ringtone" option in any of my Contacts. I have clicked on the "View More" in the Edit Contact mode, and the ONLY (sort of related) option is "Vibration Pattern".
I have run all updates on the phone (Android, Google and Samsung), it is using Android 11 and says the software is up-to-date. I have tried editing a few contacts and even adding new ones to see if the ringtone option would show up, and it does not.
Am I missing something?? My entire family has Samsung phones and this is the 1st phone with this issue.

Note20Hey there,
If you're still wrestling with this annoyance, then try the following:
Follow the steps already outlined by you.
When you're in the Edit mode on the relevant contact, tap "More..." as you did previously, look for the "Allow permissions" option, and tap it, then grant the required access permission, and viola, the option name has now changed to "Ringtone". Should be smooth sailing from here on... 🙂
When you've done this step once, the Contacts app now has the necessary permission, meaning that you'll now see the "Ringtone" option under "More..". if you want to customize ringtones for any further contacts of yours.

Note20I tried Zedge and it didn't work, but thank you for the suggestion Ma. I also tried Super Scary Ringtones and Loud Alarm Ringtones (which I have successfully used on my Note 3 for years), and like Zedge, when I select a tone, then select a contact to assign it to, the app just closes and a pop-up says "The App Keeps Unexpectadly Closing - Would you Like to Remove it?"
I have used those apps with no issues ever on my Note 3 and my husbands S9. This Note 20 wont allow me to use a third party app or the phones OS to assign any individual ringtones to any contact - there is no option for that anywhere. This has to be an OS issue somehow.

Note20When editing a contact, there is an option at the bottom that says "View more" in that section it will show items that are not being used, Ringtone is one of these options, click it, and then assign the ring tone from the list of sounds on your device.
I am using a Note20 Ultra 5G, Contacts version 12.1.02.12

Note20Odd, it is there on mine, not sure what I might have done to make the option appear... Are you on a Note 20 Ultra 5G (Not why sure this option would be locked out on a standard Note 20, but...)? what version of Contacts are you using?

Note20It's a Note 20 5G and the Contacts ver is 12.1.02.12 and says it's the most current version.
Maybe it's some security setting that I haven't found yet? But making it this User Unfriendly doesn't make any since and isn't the Samsung norm.

Note20Maybe try importing a contact from your old device, or from your spouses phone that has a ring tone assigned? You can share contacts by clicking on them, then click the 3 dot menu, and select QR code, scan that with your Note 20... Maybe this will "unlock" that option is my thinking.

Note20LOL, that's how I got them on to the Note 20, I transferred them from my Note 3 along with the apps that supported the ringtones.
I'm a techie and this has me stumped . . . I have also searched YouTube and Google with no solutions to be found.

Note20I too am a techie, and I like helping people solve problems with their devices. To that end, I have a few more things I would like to ask. Are you on OneUI 3.0 (Android 11)? Have you verified that ringtone is not already an option on the contact you are checking on (the View More option ONLY has options that are not already set)? Asuming Yes to both the above, try creating the following folders on the root of your phone, if they are not already there (would say on the root of the SD card too, but Samsung did not grace the Note20 with such a reader for some reason...):
Alarms
Notifications
Ringtones
My device has these three folders, but I believe I put them there, and is the only other thing I can think of that differentiates my device from yours. Not sure if anything needs to be in these folders, but I do have a few mp3s in the Notifications, and Ringtones folders that I use so perhaps a file or two in these migh help. Again, not sure if this will help, just doing "the old college try".
