Modes and Routines Triggered by Audio Output (hearing aids)

I am hoping to find suggestions to help trigger a Routine based on the change in audio output to a specific Bluetooth device (my hearing aids) rather than based on connection to a Bluetooth advice. The latter is not working. Please read on for more details.

I use Oticon Intent hearing aids and just upgraded from an S22 to a Galaxy S26. The two-way audio connection for phone calls is working well via Bluetooth LE audio. That got me thinking it would be better for me if I could hear the ringing phone notification for incoming calls on my hearing aids, but that was still playing on the phone.

With help from Oticon support, I learned the simple way to get call and text notifications through the hearing aids is to put the phone audio into vibration mode. This is working well, but would be better if I could automate the handoff.

What I'm looking for (I think) is the ability to run a Routine to change the sound mode from sound to vibrate when the hearing aids are connected as the audio output device, then revert when disconnected. I thought this would be as simple as triggering a Routine based on the BT connection, but my hearing aids appear to remain connected to my phone via BT even when they are not the active audio output device. This makes some sense as the phone is then able to monitor their charging status and locate them if missing.

Is there some way to trigger a routine to be active only when the phone is sending audio output to the hearing aids? I have added a manual Mode button to my home screen to toggle the audio mode, but automation is always preferred.

Thanks for your thoughts,

Dan

If you download Good Lock's sound assistant, you can set it for alerts only through headphones. Whether hearing aids count as headphones, well, your guess is as good as mine. You can try it. It's in the advanced settings of the app.

Thanks for this. I had forgotten about Sound Assistant. I just used it to route ringtones and notifications through headphones and will see whether it works. ๐Ÿคž
