Galaxy S9 FE Tablet - Change Message App

Is there no option to change the default message app?  When I go to Default apps the only thing I get is Browser, Digital Assistant App, Home App, and Opening Links. When I look at the message apps themselves and select set as default it just asks if I want it to be default for opening links.

There is no ability to set a message app on a tablet as a default because they don't come with a texting app. Texts are tied to a phone number.

The tablet has a phone number. It has its own number not tied to any phone and its own data plan.

You can only have one messaing app active at a time. When you open the app it will ask you to set it as the default. Follow the directions in the app. Tap set as default and the menu will come up to choose the default app. If you only have one messaging app, it's automatically the default. If you are switching from Samsung to Google, just tap the "switch" icon in the nitification.

That's the problem. There is no option to change default anywhere.

I am guessing that I am not missing something and the tablet just will not allow changing off of Google messages.

If you downloaded Google messages (or it already existed on your device), once you open the app, it will tell you to make it the default.  That's the way to make it your default messaging app.  Another way would be to just uninstall the other messaging app, then Google Messages will be the default app without any intervention.

Except I wanted to change off Google Messages as default and cannot.

You have to download another messaging app to change it to the default. If yiu downloaded, for instance, Textra, as soon as you open it, it will ask you to make it the default app.
